Digitalism interview
When did you start making beats and how?
We started setting up a studio about four years ago, just as a silly idea at first, but soon it turned out that we where hanging around there all the time, and then started making tools for our DJ sets, with a few borrowed piece's of lo-fi gear and a computer that consisted of mostly trashy old components… It was in an ex world war bunker, no windows, no air, no heating.
When did you know that you had done something that was going to explode?
That was just around one year after we did Zdarlight, because we more or less made it by accident to try out some new stuff. Some friends played it and it turned out to be big in the clubs, and after quite a short time we could see that people recognized the track.
If you could put together your own dream all star band who would be in it
and What muic would you play?
Of course we would play Digitalism music, because it combines everything we like. The members could change daily, so it’s not worth naming anyone. But maybe King Kong should do the drums, ‘cause they need to be big!
What dj’s records and producers do you love?
We love those who are always not too serious, and everyone who’s loud and edgy.
What non-club music is bringing you down on sunday morning?
We just don’t listen to anything but silence.
Who are your favourite dj’s around the world?
Maybe Erol Alkan, he’s legendary. But we don’t think about things like that actually.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Some big hip hop names like RZA and Dr. Dre, wavy bands like Depeche Mode, rock guys devastating everything around them, and classical soundtracks, we love them a lot.
Out side of music what or who inspires you?
Places inspire us. We love travelling, and this is why journeys have a big influence in our music.
What was the worst gig you have ever done and why?
We don’t really remember, but we ran out of vodka at some venue.
What does the future hold for the you ?
Lots of travelling and meeting everyone of you.
