About time too!! Check out www.thewalls.ie for the single i think its well cool! Passing Through - The Walls new single is out now. It?s a radio and internet- only release, so you won't find it in the shops, just here at thewalls.ie. The song is a three minute slice of melodic, guitar-driven energy, taken from the band's long awaited second album, 'New Dawn Breaking', which will be released on May 27th (in all good stores nationwide). Apart from a few trips around Europe, the band spent most of the last two years in Dublin, building their own studio, listening to loads of music and discussing the type of album they wanted to make. Guitarist/keyboardist Carl Harms had also just left the band so it was time for a change in direction aided with a new member, bassist Jon O?Connell. The listening started with the blues - Howling Wolf? Leadbelly? Muddy Waters and they worked their way through to Link Wray?..Elvis?. Johnny Cash?. Dylan? Hendrix?.Gram Parsons?. Them?.The Velvet Underground?..The Stooges?..Bowie. The music of Levon Helm and The Band was particularly influential and the Clash?s London Calling was almost worn out. The band wanted to make an album that was honest, real and not driven by any trends or hype. The music would come first. Samplers, sequencers and keyboards were left behind and the band went to Black Box studios in France to record the basic tracks (on the same equipment as Ike and Tina Turner?s ?Nutbush City Limits?)! They wanted to make an album that was about capturing the magic of a great live performance - four guys in a room doing take after take and trying not to lose the soul of the music in the process. The final overdubs were done in the bands own studio in Dublin before returning to France to mix it. The album already contains three singles: their massive hit To The Bright and Shining Sun, the high-octane A side from last October Drowning Pool and the current single Passing Through. The great poet WB Yeats even gets a look in - Romantic Ireland?s Dead and Gone is a new song that takes a cynical look at the state of the nation today. The band will embark on a nationwide tour from the end of May through June to coincide with the release of the album. They also intend to dust off a few of The Stunning tunes from their back catalogue so the gigs promise to be an interesting musical treat. Check out the GIGS link for dates.
