Does anyone know where a Dublin venue called The Underground is/was? I know there's a venue by that name under Kennedy's pub on Westland Row, but I don't think it's the same.

The original Underground was on Dame St at the junction of Georges Street on the Temple Bar side of the road. It is closed 15 years I reckon, but was one of the few spots where small local acts could play back in the day. I think it might be a *cough* gentlemens club these days...

Jesus I feel old. You'll be asking if anyone has heard of these things called cassettes next. Vent My Spleen is correct. It was on Dame Street straight ahead of you as you come down George's Street. Lapellos is there now. Is there one of those Hot Press Rock and Stroll things there? There definitely used to be. Must have seen A house there about 30 times back in the day. A great little place, fondly remembered indeed. It probably held about 80/90 people.

Punchbowl - I have that album too. I believe they sold fewer than 40 altogether. Might be worth hanging on to in case, erm, The Gorehounds reunite and go on to become the next U2. Thanks for the link - I saw him do it live at an instore in Tower, a gig that was notable for the amount of children present most of whom, his little daughter included, sat cross legged in the front row with their fingers in their ears. Wandering around town today i was delighted to note that there are posters about advertising an upcoming gig. A true legend.

The Underground was a bit of a hole but they served pints of snakebite and had bands there most nights. At the time, Dublin was a bit of a wasteland for live music. If you couldn't fill Whelan's, there was literally nowhere for local acts to play other than the Underground or a place on the quays whose name escapes me where the stage was made out of old milk crates. Playing the Baggot Inn was regarded as having made a big step up! Never heard of that album guys, who else is on it? All the greats played there, Tower of Babel, A House, Gorehounds etc etc.

I missed out on The Underground but used to go there when it was called Deja Vu and they served tea & coffee with a healthy dose of whiskey until 5am or something. To say my memories of that place are a blur would be an understatement.

I think an early 'Something Happens' are on it too... Certianly A House's 'On your bike wench and let's have the back of you' make it very valuable to me.. He's playing the Village on Nov 11th with some very, very special guests!!!

No actually up onto the stage with the band, not just to the side.
