WHAT?? I didn't know that - that's awful. Saw some amazing gigs there and have some great memories, even if some of them are tainted with sweat from the crowd dripping back down on you from the ceiling! I suppose there hasn't really been any gigs there in a while and it hasn't been a venue here really for a long time - the Astorria has been open and holding gigs right up to now - a few of us were only there last month to see the Cramps. It's a great venue, a good size and it's a real shame that it's getting pulled down for poxy apartments.

MCD owned it, so as soon as the Ambassador came into play, the SFX went by the wayside.
Planning Permission granted last Nov., wrecking balls moved in last week.
Half sucked smartie to who can tell me what SFX stood for ... Is was a bit surprised when I heard.

I saw Arcade Fire in the Astora last year. Amazing gig but I didn't think much of the venue, kinda dingy. I guess it'd mean more if I'd been there on a regular basis.

Sad news about SFX.. The interiors for the 'Pride (in the name of love)' by U2 video were shot there by the way. No, I don't expect a smartie for that nugget of info, just some virtual love.

I remember that gig actually. Saw Green Day there too on the Dookie tour, and Bush and Placebo in the same week.
Fantastic venue!

Terrible shame, loved that venue and most of the great gigs I saw, when young n impressionable, were there - Jesus and Mary Chain, Sugarcubes, the Wonder Stuff. Sure there are more that I've forgotten about...

Saw the Foos and Placebo there. First time seeing idlewild as the support for placebo. Not too many memories of the venue though (no it wasnt the alcohol!!) as it was a good few years ago
