HEINEKEN GREEN SYNERGY & POD CONCERTS PRESENTS: HEINEKEN GREEN SYNERGY : 4th – 8th October 2006 Various locations in Dublin City Centre Heineken in association with POD Concerts are delighted to announce the first Heineken Green Synergy Festival. Taking place across a number of clubs, bars and venues in Dublin in early October, the festival will draw an eclectic mix of performers from across the world for quality music shows in the heart of Dublin. Ghostface Killah, the former Wu Tang Clan rapper, brings his inimitable rapping skills to the Village on October 6th. Having being at the vanguard of the hip hop scene since the early 1990s, this show will see him mixing classics along with sounds from his new album. Messiah J & The Expert, who are releasing their new album ‘Now This I Gotta Hear’ on the week of the show will provide the local support. Label owner and the brains behind PlaygroupTrevor Jackson will keep the show rolling with a late night DJ set in the Village on October 6th. From designing record sleeves in the early days of acid house and hip-hop and remixing the likes of Massive Attack, Unkle, Death In Vegas of U2, under his Underdog guise, to setting up his own imprint, Output, the man has been a consistent element of the dance scene of the past twenty years. He will be joined by The PHO-KU Soundsytem, which is the music offshoot of UK creatives The Designers Republic. The Fall, led by the enigmatic Mark E Smith, bring their 30 year back catalogue to the Village on October 7th. Hailed as the favourite act of the late pioneering DJ John Peel, The Fall have often awkwardly embraced their status as post-punk legends. However, 30 years on they remain an undoubted influence upon a host of musicians and a must-see act for anyone who values music. New kids on the block Fujiya & Miyagi will make their Irish debut supporting The Fall. Boasting fans from LCD Soundsystem to Tiga, these Brighton duo are one of the freshest and inventive dance acts at the moment. Jamaican roots & reggae act The Congos will make their debut Irish appearance in the Village on October 8thas a full eight piece band. Having worked with everyone from Lee Scratch Perry who produced their classic recording Heart of The Congos to Sly & Robbie who were session musicians on their most recent release, this promises to be one of the highlights of the festival. The Trojan Soundsystem, who host some of the finest reggae club nights in London, will be whipping up the frenzy beforehand. French act Nouvelle Vague have endeared themselves to Irish fans with their unique bossa nova take on classic tunes. From ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ to ‘Teenage Kicks’, they have imbued favourites with a sultry, hip swaying, beauty and have been hailed for their live shows. You can catch them in Whelans on October 6th. Fresh from headlining theNME stage at OxygenBoy Kill Boy play Whelans on October 7th. Having earned a reputation for a cracking live show Boy Kill Boy will be performing tracks from their Top 20 debut album ‘Civilian’. Been likened to “The Smiths splitting half a disco biscuit with Hard-Fi in the Hacienda gents" by the NME has done them no harm either. When your cast of supporters include Antony & the Johnsons, Devendra Banhart, The Arcade Fire and Richard Hawley, you must be doing something right and Micah P Hinson is doing more than that at the moment. This 24-year-old Texan has drawn on his fair share of crazy life experiences (drugs, jail and homelessness) to deliver “raw, sophisticated and sublime folk and country-tinged epistles”according toMojo. This full band show comes off the back of a sold-out solo performance in Crawdaddy earlier this year. Support on the night comes from hotly tipped UK act Jeremy Warmsley who deploys his Fender and electronic sounds to create a sound that stands apart from conventional singer. A number of free gigs will be held across town also with DJ Format, well respected among the hip hop fraternity in Dublin playing a funk seton the decks in Solas, DJ Dexter from the Avalanchesspinning tunes in Carnival and BBC Radio One DJ Rob Da Bank making his first appearance over here on the decks in Anseo. More shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

DJ Dexter from the Avalanches is one of the best technical DJ's I've ever seen. I've heard him mix Squarepusher, Bob Marley, DJ Zinc, Rick James, System Of A Down, Aphex Twin, Jackson 5, Timo Mass, Missy Elliot, Queens Of The Stone Age, Snoop Dogg, Andy C, Jimi Hendrix, Fischerspooner and Cypress Hill all into one coherent set and still rock the crowd. The boy's got serious skills (3 times Aussie DMC champ) and he's well worth checking out. If you miss him in Dublin he's playing 110th Street in Galway on Saturday the 30th of September and I'll be warming up for him (I'm equal parts excited and scared sh*tless about the prospect).

Yeah it's deadly. Saw him a few years ago with Raekwon and they were brill. Kept the crowd wating from ages though.....played nearly all of Wu-tang Forever over the PA between the support and the two boys coming on. No one deserves that kind of treatment.
