Two totally separate topics here and forgive me if you've all talked about it before...
Just wondering if there is *any* sign of Mr. Rice bringing out anything new anytime soon? Is the man just incredibly lazy or having a spiritual crisis or what? I know he's on tour but it's been forever since he brought out anything new.
And to iPods - I have a radio transmitter I bought in the States and it's just useless. It would have to be taped to the stereo to give out any kind of decent sound at all. Anyone else have this problem or any other solution for playing your iPod in the car when you have a CD player? It's like the signal needs to be boosted...

Damien Rice, can't help you there.
iPods in cars, the easiest option is to have bought one of the cars listed on this page with factory iPod compatibility in the first place: http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipodyourcar/
Of course, if you either can't afford a new car or like me choose to drive a retro ride, this isn't an option. First off, forget FM transmitters, waste of time in my opinion, especially if you have a poor quality tuner on your head unit. What you need to do is get your car stereos manual out and find out what inputs it has. This won't be immediately obvious because the inputs will often be at the back of your head unit and are usually intended for a CD changer. You may be able to get an auxillary cable to connect your iPod to the auxillary input of your head unit. Ask your local motor factors if it's an aftermarket head unit or your dealer if it's a standard fit stereo. These guys may also be able to help you out: http://gear.ie/CategoryDisplay/CategoryBrowser.aspx?category=51
A third option is simply to replace the head unit with one that has a USB interface. Not sure if this works with an iPod, but it works with most MP3 players. The head unit acts as a USB host, so it can read MP3 or (non-DRM prtected)WMA files directly from the player (or a USB memory stick), provided the player can act as a hard disk. It will NOT work with apples poxy .AAC format (DRM infested songs downloaded from the pointlessly restrictive iTunes). This is because the USB method does not involve sending any actual audio signal to your head unit, the head unit simply reads the file off the players internal memory and plays them itself. Most head units do not support AAC and even if they did, wouldn't be allowed play them back because of DRM (digital rights management). There is a lot to be said for a USB interface, it's the easiest to use and a much cheaper option than you might think.

Rice should be releasing a new album around late October. He's done the supporting slot over in the states and is doing a few headliners on these shores, so it shouldn't be too long now. Even if it's good or bad though, it'll still sell bucket loads.

At the time he was going around saying that the 2nd and 3rd albums had already been written too.
At least he hasn't reached Blue Nile (the Michael Cimino/Terrence Mallick of the music world) levels yet.

It always baffles me why Mallick doesn't make more films. 'Badlands' is a classic!

At the time (and I still do for that matter) I thought The Thin Red Line was vastly superior to Saving Private Ryan.
That being said I could probably count the number of Speilberg films that I really like on the fingers of one hand.

and fair play to him too cos "O" is still selling a couple of thousand copies worldwide every week which lets him take all the time in the world. most bands would kill for that.

from a press cutting:
"damien rice has leaked a few more details about his sophomore album release. it is to be entitled "X" and will be based primarily on his breakup with lisa hannigan. it will definitely be in stores by december but the year has not yet been decided. expect it to include an abundance of overwrought lyrics and annoying vocal tics... meanwhile, rice is about to unleash his new line of arran jumpers onto the irish market which he intends to sell for a significant loss at all good smoothie bars around the country"

Thanks for the comprehensive replies guys! You're a chatty lot. Nice to see on an Irish forum. Do you ever meet in person at gigs etc.?
On the Mr. Farrell point. Did you not think he was ok in Minority Report or Phone Booth? Forgive me for siding with the mainstream on this - and, I have to admit - I haven't seen Alexander nor will I ever, but the boy seems like a good actor??

Yeah, he was brilliant in the sublime Tigerland but his performances , and the films he has starred in, have got progressively worse ever since. Alexander- the funniest unintentional comedy I have ever seen.
