A host of stars, including Lou Reed, Beth Orton, Nick Cave and Laurie Anderson will take part in a tribute concert to honour legendary poet and singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival. 'Came So Far For Beauty - An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs', which takes place at the Point Theatre on Wednesday 4 October, is curated by music producer Hal Willner. Others that will perform interpretations of Cohen's songs include former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, The Handsome Family, Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, Teddy Thompson and Gavin Friday, along with Cohen's original backing singers Julie Christiansen and Perla Batalla. Tickets for 'Came So Far For Beauty' cost €39.50/€49.25/€60/€70 and are available from Ticketmaster outlets nationwide. http://www.rte.ie/arts/2006/0630/cohenl.html

Should be a cracker of a gig with that line-up. The idea for it really started with a new documentary called 'Leonard Cohen : I'm Your Man'. Check out the trailer for it here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/leonardcohenimyourman

Where's the best place to sit in The Point? Up on the balcony or on the ground floor?

it depends, really. i've sat upstairs and downstairs for seperate Bruce shows and both times, it was great. downstairs is a better atmosphere, though, and you are nearer the stage.

Cheers Pilchard. I don't like The Point at all (not close enough to city centre and the stage always seems really far away), but the line-up for that Cohen gig is excellent so can't miss it.
