Got a record token for my birthday and I'm wracked with indecision as to how to spend it. So I thought, I'll take advantage of the collective wisdom of the Cluas membership to guide me through this difficult decision. I'm looking for recommendations basically. My usual taste is towards jangly guitar pop with lots of catchy choruses etc. and my current collection would incldue the likes of Aimee Mann, Crowded House, Squeeze, Something Happens, The La's.....you get the picture. Was thinking about The Feelings album - any other suggestions ?

How about any of the following? Tilly And The Wall, The Weepies, Howe Gelb, Islands, Built To Spill, Michael Knight.

Ride - Nowhere, plenty of jangly yet moody bits there http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:u6de4j370wai

"jangly guitar pop with lots of catchy choruses"... that sounds like the new camera obscura album... but buy ride's nowhere if you want an alltime classic indie guitar (though not particularly jangly) record

Judging by the bands you listed I'd say that there's a fair chance that you'd like the Lemonheads.

Been thinking about picking up The Birthday Party's "Greatest Hits" album after hearing the excellent "Release the Bats." Anyone know if the rest of their material is up to this standard?

I do like the Lemonheads. I'd prefer to buy something new though rather than something that's been around for ages.

It's quite good. I've only given it one listen since I bought it but it's good stuff. Sounds a lot like The Most Serene Republic.

Well in that case I'd recommend Set Yourself on Fire by Stars. Judging by your tastes I'd say it'd be right up your alley and it's only about a year old. If you go to their website http://www.arts-crafts.ca/stars/ you can check out a few songs off the album in their video section. Id recommend Reunion to start with.

yep, they released it last week on Bar None records. I got it last night at the HWCH launch. Allen Died, April Five and Nine Words and M.O. are fantastic songs. Such a great band.

Have you heard Nevermind by a band called Nirvana? I tip them to be huge.
