IN SEPTEMBER 2005 A SMALL CAMERA CREW (NINE HAND-HELDS, NO CRANES) TURNED UP TO CAPTURE THE FLAVOUR OF A FRESH AND ECCENTRIC FACE ON OUR MUSIC SCENE: THE ELECTRIC PICNIC MUSIC FESTIVAL IN STRADBALLY HALL ESTATE IN CO LAOIS. 25,000 OTHER PUNTERS JOINED THEM. So beautiful is the setting, and so thoughtful the planning, it was said that you could spend three days there and 'never have to sully yourself with the music.' Teepees and Mongolian yurts, meadows of giant coloured flags, burlesque cabaret girls rubbing shoulders with Ibiza fall-out, the Wellington boot brigade and those with neon yellow wigs, masseuses bringing tired dancing limbs back to life, morroccan mint tea steaming and organic food stalls sizzling into the night, old black-and-white flicks in a giant cinema marquee, and a good smattering of bongo-drum enthusiasts.... In the unlikely hands of roving bohos musician Nick Seymour and economist David McWilliams, we are guided through this boutique festival, treated to such delights as one of Kraftwerk's only two recorded live performances in 12 years, Nick Cave, Arcade Fire, Human League, Fatboy Slim, Stereo MCs, Royksopp, Flaming Lips, Doves among others. Interviews with the acts, with a few very tired festival heads, and with the locals of Stradbally, this is a very entertaining take on what Rolling Stone Magazine described as 'one of the best festivals we have EVER been to.' IRELAND • 2006 • DIGITAL VIDEO & DIGI BETA • COLOUR • 60 MIN Premier Screening on Tuesday 4th of July at 6.30pm There are just 200 seats available for this screening (€8), so to reserve your pair of tickets, please complete this form: http://www.ifi.ie/index_102.asp

What is it with 'unprecented' backstage footage? No-one cares what goes on at backstage except people who are there. Show the gigs and be done with it.

I thought this was decent last night but could've been much better. The interviews were very poor, it skimmed over alot of the festival and kept reverting back to that twin camera affect.

Yea that was very f**king annoying - and the interviews were pretty s**t - apart from Royksopp which was good, if also pretty short n sweet. The footage of the gigs was done well but there shouldve been more bands shown.

Yeah the Arcade Fire and Kraftwerk footage was class and brought some great memories back !! But did anyone notice how awful the sound quality was throughout the filming of any of the acts? REally poor - also made me remember that the sound was pretty crap for some of the acts I saw there myself - hoping that it's better this year.

I remember thinking that the Arcade Fire gig was the most amazing live performance I'd ever witnessed in this country, but the footage they screened last night made it sound awful. It sounds like they didn't record the sound from the band's actual mixing desk and instead they just held a boom mike in front of the band.
