anyone know anything about this band? came across a few mp3s that seem to be from an ep, i know they had an album out a few years back and found a few reviews of that but they don't seem to have a website - if they do it's able to hide from google, which is some feat. are they still around?

Ah, Woodstar.Ludicrously talented Five-piece from Limerick who released a magnificent EP “The Last Sad Verse Of A Dumb Punk Song” few years back, one the most accomplished set of songs I've probably ever heard from an Irish band. They didn't get the recognition they deserved, ok they gained the usual exposure via Hot Press, Dave Fanning, Pet Sounds etc but they deserved much more. Probably a bit too downbeat for most people's tastes. Then promptly disappeared off the face of the earth. Sad.

I got the album at the time. Thought it was patchy enough in places. Stand out track for me was "Suicide Way". Where are they now?

Heard nothing from them for 4 years.Yes, the album has some filler but it's got some great stuff also. It's the EP I go back to though, stands up to repeated listens, bit of a classic...will have to dig it out again too. Can't even find a website for them but check this out: http://www.imro.ie/about/sxsw.shtml

The album 'Life Sparks' was released in 2003. A pretty good debut (Stephen Street even produced a few tracks) but I thought that they might have went on to better things, like an even better second album. The website used to be www.woodstar.ie but seems to have vanished now.

Maybe they are having more success supporting the Munster Rugby team.
