..or did GWAR just win it? Lithuanias entry was pure genius, but what I really want to know is what Jules thought of Germanys country entry?

Absolute classic! Not only a musical moment that will go down in history, but the moment in which the downward fall of the Eurovision manifests itself in human form!

please tell me you are being sarcastic! Ireland gave 10 points to Finland and 12 to Lithuania, I just hope that vote to Lithuania was as a result of all the Lithuanians living here voting for their home country, if it was the Irish voting we should be very embarrassed!! I thought it was a good contest this year, a lot of good entries of course most didn't figure at the top of the points table though. As for Finland, admittedly the song wasn't that bad, catchy but it does make a bit of a mochery of the competition. It also proved that competing in the semifinal is a good thing as you get to build up support base and people get to know the song, on Friday everyone who watched the semifinal was talking about either Finalnd or Lithuania.

i thought it was pretty comical, i could imagine brian kennedy sitting on the couch thinking what the hell is going on here?
personally i dont think he stood a chance, they are trying to market eurovision at the younger generation who incidently think brian kennedy is a knob, if it were ten years ago they would have won, but i think they should have sent a band this year (and not a band they put together a couple of weeks before), i reckon they will send a band next year.
funny eurovision related story:
we played a show in athlone one time and that ginger guy from last year was there (his sister was awol) anyways he was absolutly hammered and necking the guiness and pretty much moving around from group to group and singing at people till they left or moved,
it was a classic case of do you know who i am? in a father jack voice, plus he looks about 5 which made it funnier.

I find your theses on this matter a bit intense - eurovision is a laugh and should be a laugh
Ireland give Finland and Lithuania those votes because people seen the mockery of it all - and plus the huge amount of exposure the Lithuanian song got on the Ray Darcy show probably had a lot to do with it!

Spot on. Everyone was banging on about the Lithuanian entry. Personally I'm disappointed it didn't win. Maybe their emploring of people to vote, vote, vote for the winners wasn't obvious (or subtle) enough.
Jaysis Comet, you'd swear the Eurovision was all about having the best song Europe has to offer or something!!!!!!

...eurovision SONG contest......
Ah who cares?! It's an entertaining show. Everybody just votes for their neighbours anyway.
By the way, what the hell was with that guy doing the Dutch (I think Dutch anyway) voting? Kinda surreal...

That guy was mental - the lunacy of so much of it was just "AMAZIN!!" - Also thought the German guy giving the results on a horse was hilarious - not to mention the Polish guy who looked like someone had just poked him away from a deep slumber to broadcast to 300 million people!!
You just dont get that s**t anywhere else!!

Never realised, but come to think of it, when I was in Germany a couple of months ago, most of the shops that sold CDs (large department or electical stores, the city of Ulm didn't seem to have any normal record stores, no Virgin, HMV, or whatever the German equivalent is, which seemed pretty strange) seemed to have large-ish country sections.
Nowhere near as big as the Metal section in one department store though. I was with a friend of mine who is a serious metalhead and he was like a kid in sweetshop picking up armfuls of obscure metal albums from bands with names like "Blind Guardian" you'd never find here. Bear in mind that this was like the German equivalent of Roches stores or something, what a country - first floor: groceries, 2nd floor: soft furnishings, 3rd floor: metal albums.
Anyway Jules, you should do a feature for Cluas: "The ten best non-English language country albums...ever"

Ah yeah lads i know its a bit of a laugh but for some reason i like the Eurovision and probably take it too seriously (God thats an embarrassing admission, maybe i need help)
Btw I thought that German country n' western song was really good, thought they could have cashed in on Johnny Cash fever but they got hardly any votes.

Its a freak show now more than ever. The winners look like they came from a Halloween fancy dress party and the song is tripe. It seems to me that the people who vote are just as much interested in shock value as they are in the song. In alot of ways its just another Reality TV show. Another relection of the times we live in I guess.

Oh I see, I agree with you now. People are actually voting for crap whereas before it was the 'best' in the show.
Terry Wogan is a legend though. Did u see the dutch presenter suggesting that another was gay "I bet your number is 69 69 69" or something along those lines, lol

I remember he said something like "you look like will and grace" to the Greek presenter, before asking him if he would like his mobile number. The Greek fellow countered with something along the lines of "I know it already: 69 69 69" which was responded to by the Dutch chap giving out what seemed to be somehting closer to an actual phone number.
Dutch slap head seemed like he was on something. I'm certain it would have come to blows (ahem) if they'd been in front of each other.
The eurovision is ace.

Funny you mention that, I was visiting mates in germany a few years ago, They were German by the way, and one day cruising down the autobahn in an open top beetle I said, you know, no matter what radio station you put on there is always metal on it. The guys didn't believe it so I said, ok, lets put money on it and play roulette. So, we switch off the tape thats playing, switch off the radio (one of those analog things) and I spin the dial up and down without looking at it (i'm not driving), when they tell me to stop and turn on the radio again, what do we hear ? The chug, chug, chug, chug of speed metal guitar and the following lyric, "I wake up in a room / There's blood on my hands". Made a few quid out of that one, but it all went on a round of beers, jah.
