In Dublin we had Chicks on Decks and now we have Love Action and Leather Girls. And if you go to the indie club section of NME it seems that every second week the featured DJ is a female DJ duo in the mould of Queens of Noize? Why have so many emerged in the last few years and why do they always seem to play a hyprid of indie, electro and ironic 80's pop?

Us Leather Girls aren't exactly new on the scene we've been knocking around a fair while now! but as Una so rightly put it yeah demand we wouldn't be playing unless people were booking us for gigs which by the way we are playing on Easter Monday as part of Budrising early in the festival hub in the village aroung 4 oclock and later that night also in the village supporting We are scientists. The lovely love action are also on in the village on Monday afternoon so see you all there .. come form an opinion keep this thread going for weeks! Caroline Leatherx

Seems to make sense to me, it must be handy to have a mate to help you dig out the right record quickly amidst that satck of crates. The question is why don't more blokes DJ as a duo? ..Oh yeah, we don't ask for directions so we're gonna find the right (i.e. wrong) slab of vinyl all by ourselves thanks very much. As for the choice of playlist, lots of people like indie, electro and 80s pop (nothing ironic about it). Anything is better than progressive trance.

Actually the more I think about it the more I realise that there's way more male DJ duo's then there are female, so my original post is kind of redundant. In Galway alone you have SiSi (Cian & Cyril from 110th Street), the Disconaughts (Keith & Padraig), the Shake DJ's (Ray & Aran) and 2 Many Rories. The mainfloor DJ's at 091 were actually a trio (Frenchy, Lynam & Tiddlerz). And there's been loads of other male DJ duos in the past such as Superwax, Boss Rebels & The Unfadeabalz. Even back in my 110th Street days I always played with someone else (either Simpy or Ger-Z). I can't think of any female DJ duos from Galway, only a mixed one (Tom & Olive from Gigantic). I still don't get the 80's thing though. It's one thing playing New Order or The Cure but when people bust out Kim Wilde it just goes way over my head.

I don't suppose you have a full weekend DJ line up for the Village? Is any other venue putting on early gigs?
