Guys & Gals, have any of you been somewhere ordinary and heard a song you never paid much attention to before, prehaps by an artist you don't really care that much about and suddenly, the song blows your mind ? Eh, its just happened to me today, in a shoe shop, when I heard 'Fix You' by, eh, Coldplay

Again, Coldplay for me. Happened one night when I was drunk and watching The Amp. The video for 'Talk' came on and I though it was the greatest thng ever.. It wasn't, of course, but it's a damn fine song anyway and continues to be..

Great video too. Night after night as a 12yr old, pulling the stomach of myself. I feel I've said too much ...

'Fix You' is an amazing song for me, it's probably Do You Remember The First Time by Pulp. It used to just float around in my head until one day, it - as Rev Jules put it - blew my mind

Yep, 'Do You Remember The First Time?' blew my mind also, the intro is amazing, hairs standing up on the back of my neck and all that...Jarvis' lyrics so perceptive and moving, gets you in the heart, head and gut all at the same time, every time! A nineties classic. Surely a reunion is on the cards? Speaking of Coldplay, when I heard 'Clocks' for the first time I had to sit down. I couldn't believe how good it was. Can't listen to it now though, funnily enough.

When Johnny Cash first released the 'American Recordings', I was struck at how simple it all sounded but how much of an impact the songs and his voice had. I've always liked 'The Mercy Seat' by Nick Cave but when Cash and Rubin recorded it, the song just 'blew me away'. It still does.

"Absolute Beginners" by Bowie. Great intro, great melody, great lyrics and inspired use of Saxaphone.

Have you heard the Dubby Games version by Business Man? It's a tune! Listen for yourself; http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF195028-01-02-01.mp3 Mully's right though, as good as the song is the best thing about it is Helena Christensen in the video.

WEIRD.... I had a similar thing with that Zoot Woman song too..saw them playing at Witnness a few years back and that song blew me away, was singing it all weekend. But couldn't find their album anywhere. Subsequently forgot about it. Bought the second album, still couldn't find the first one and then a few months ago remembered about it again and finally bought it off Amazon...have been humming the song for about 3 years and now finally have it to listen to!!!! Sebastien Tellier's 'La Ritournelle' blew me away recently. It's Stunning.

I remember going to bed listening to dEUS "In A Bar Under The Sea" for the first time & at the time "Fell Off The Floor, Man" knocked me sideways. Familiarity has lessened the feeling but it's still great. "Dont Think Twice It's Alright" by Dylan really hit me first time in a depressing post-break up period and it still does it for me. "I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul.."

Happened yesterday. Heard The Black Keys "10AM Automatic" for the first time. Repeated it ad infinitum. Must resist listening to it too much or i will kill it.

I know it's no the same but the first time I heard Untitled # 1 by Sigur Ros brought me close to tears. And that was when they won an award at some MTV thing for best video. But I don't generally watch award shows...I'd rather watch my finger nails grow. How about a song that you know you shouldn't like and no matter how much you try, it just stays in your head until it makes you agree you're abolutely in love with it. That would be 'Sing it Back' by Moloko for me, but I don't really know why I was in denial...

Ah now, I wouldnt throw Sing It Back into the guilty pleasures box. And ditto, Mr.Protein Biscuit on The Black Keys. "You've got pains like an addict, 10AM Automatic..." There's efforts being made to get them over here for a gig....

Jesus lads read the first post - it's not songs that blow you away the first time you hear them its songs you've heard loads of times and then one day blow you away.
