Apparently, Alabama 3 are on the next episode of Other Voices Programme 6 - 1st March Iarla Ó Lionáird, Jape, Asian Dub Foundation, Alabama 3. Lets hope they are better than the load of jokers who have appeared on it so far, Laura Cantrell excepted. And why a church ? Is this a gospel show ? No. Is wee Daniel appearing on it ? No. Why ? The big joke is the series ends with Nizlopi. I mean, that JCB song is pure cat. James Blunt and JCBs, christ in heaven. As for the Wainwright offspring, oh, don't get me started. Kids, your dad was famous for 5 minutes in the 1970s with a song about roadkill, get over it.

He's canadian, I expect there is a certain amount of irony attached to those hats. Sometimes I think Shania Twain is being ironic too, maybe she is

I think what you can expect, if he brings his band, is some new tradition country music (young musicians drawing inspiration from past movements in the music) with a certain amount of hayseed humour. Of course, sometimes these guys show up with just a guitar and it would be the same material except you lose some of the colours, but hey. Its funny actually, all the alternative country artists now sound just like mainstream country artists from the past whils't the mainstream artists of today on music row sound like any boyband ballad singers from the Louis Walsh / Simon Cowell stable. In fact, alot of Louis Walshs favourite repetoire for his moppets is old nashville standards, oh Ive seen him lurking around the country section in tower, he's a big country fan and knows his stuff too but he keeps that to himself. If you like Country, youll like corb lund. If you like Corb Lund, you'll like Mark Chesnutt who did a great version of 'The Lord Loves The Drinking Man' last year.

Was it just me or were Alabama 3 well dodgy last night? The lead guy looked like Bes with a stetson on and they murdered the Sopranos theme tune (even though it is their's). ADF were decent though, as was Jape.

Yep, I though Alabama 3 were very dodgy last night, its one thing to get it right in studio, another live. And the church looked ridiculous. I guess its the curse of 'Other Voices', it leaves no act untouched. And why does RTE insist on having all its shows presented by such unattractive looking people ? Can we not have the next series of Other Voices presented by Glenda Gilson please ?

i've always thought A3 were dodgy, the kind of band you know someone like Hot Press gets excited about because they're Scottish crusties from Brixton. i could be wrong on this but i think i saw them last night on Other Vices doing - and like i say i could be wrong - an Aslan song???

Actually, you were right, they had sampled "Crazy World" on their last record.

Alabama 3 are so random. I think years and years of drug abuse have finally unmasked their real s**tness.

you don't think their jcb is sexy? i think the original intention with the church was just that it would be something different - very few gig-venues, apart from classical music, are of the sit-down-quietly-and-listen variety these days. also, churches have great acoustics - i'd say the gigs there sound great.

Yes, very true. This year's season of Other Voices has been disappointing, very few notable performances...but Glenda Gilson presenting would really send me into the depths of despair. That surprised expression permanently fixed on her face and what would she know about Stars, Jape and Rufus Wainright? Mention any one of the artists on the bill and imagine the look of surprise on her face...hold on, how could you distinguish real surprise with her normal expression...i'm confused.

Tell you what, her expression of surprise couldnt be any greater than mine at the idea that any decent music got an airing on Other Vices. As for church acoustics, pah, nothing could make that lot sound good, you might as well hold the gigs in a septic tank.

Watching the repeat of last week's show last night, I was very disturbed by the chap at the back of the church giving it socks to ADF. Anyone spot him?

Did you know that if you lay the vocal tracks of 'Goodbye My Lover' James Blunt 'This Years Love' David Gray 'Cannonball' Damien Rice Side by side on a mixing desk and play them together in synch, it sounds like a herd of Falklands sheep being shagged by The Paras ? Not alot of people know that
