Fraid can't be as positive about Beth Orton as I was about Broken Social Scene. She was very, very nervous and said she felt like she was playing at a music conference because everyone was sitting down in the audience in Vicar St. Haven't gotten her new album so maybe that's what it was or maybe it was the idiots behind me in the balcony who talked the entire way through her set, but I just wasn't bowled over. Her voice is really unique and I thought she was brilliant on the older songs from Central Reservation and on the slower, solo ones, and I loved the encore. But I wasn't convinced by the songs with the band backing her. Her voice was going by the end of it, she said she had a bit of a throat infection. It was a nice way to end the weekend overall, but after the brilliance of BSS on Saturday she was always going to have a tough job to impress.
