Still smiling after the gig on Saturday night, amazing performance from the 10 musicians on stage. The drummer was fantastic and at one stage there were two of them providing the pumping beats. The trombone, trumpet and saxaphone opened the show and the guitarists were brilliant throughout. There was also keyboard and violin included, such energy and powerful playing I haven't witnessed in a while. The singing was spot on as well. They kept it going over the nearly 3 hour set. Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning chatted about their Irish roots in Cork and Leitrim, which produced boo's and cheers respectively. The looked like they were really enjoying it and the crowd responded in kind. Don't think their latest album does them justice, you have to see them live to really appreciate their talent, hopefully they'll be back for the summer festivals.

Yeah great gig. Funny banter, singer wandered into crowd to hug (i think) people... Didnt feel like a long gig either. Weird though that some broken guitar strings brought em to a bit of a standstill for a while. Agree theyre better live than on record. Imagine Canada was the world's superpower instead!

It was for hugs, I was the recipient of one. I was a bit wary when I finally saw the lineup they had for the tour as anthems for a 17 year old girl is one of my favourite songs of theirs and I couldn't imagine anyone bar Emily Haines singing it but the woman that sang on Saturday was fantastic.
I thought it was funny when Kevin was going "who likes Metric, who likes Stars etc." and people were cheering for the more obscure members of the arts and crafts family while I was thinking "there is no way these people have heard all those bands".
Great gig, can't wait to see them at ATP in May.

Yeah, no cheers for Rush, mind. :) I'd say half the crowd fell in love with that singer. Lisa Something wasnt it?
And yes, they went from 'very good' to 'transcendental' in record time!

Her last name is Lobsinger and she's my new fanboy crush.
I was up the front and was the one to inform Brendan of the upgrade in quality to transcendental, for the record it occoured when they played "Almost Crimes".
Not only was there no cheer for Rush, they didn't even mention Journey or BTO.

Why couldn't Lisa Lobsinger have come into the crowd to dish out some hugs? It was actually very surreal when Kevin Drew gave me a hug. But cracking set and the best gig of the year so far. It was everything that CYHSY should try to aspire to, or most bands for that matter.
Here's a cool live review of their London gig:
