holy god. is this a golden age? is it a freak time? with the blizzards, director, the marshall, the flaws, the immediate, humanzi, royseven, the chalets, morello, republic of loose, and more i've forgot being signed.. is this a golden age? i if one of these bands produces a classic album or even a classic single it could heap even more interest in the next crop of bands on the way up. so how did this happen? who are your main tips?

About time it started to happen. The majority of the one's mentioned above should go on to become well established acts. So hopefully more Irish acts will work harder at producing better music and the Irish scene profits.

seanc's comment is the one to note. we've been here before and it all went south. give it time and see where it is in 2008 or 2009 am i alone in thinking that it doesnt matter whether acts are "signed" or not? surely we've had the like sof Damien Rice (a couple of million sales), The Frames (jumping from label to label without taking a nosedive at any stage) and others doing very well indeed beyond here WITHOUT any help from a big label? It really comes down to the band themselves, the people they decide to allign themselves with and how hard everyone is prepared to work.

I don't wanna come across as negative or bitchy here, I wish em all the best of luck, and I actually like some of them bands. bands get signed all the time, its not a golden age for signing. And there's no way to tell how these bands will do over the next cupla years

The art of argument, case and substance really is unique on certain threads.

apparently, *APPARENTLY*, only half the bands that get signed actually get to release an album. hopefully 5 or so of those will (by that token), and hopefully one or more of them is good. its funny, they're probably 20 (for example) manchester bands been signed in the same time, but they probably don't get as much exposure and critical build up and knock downs as these will get from their own local scene.

also, a deal is a vague term. the difference between some of those deals is probably vast. some will be small deals on small labels for a small period, and others would be the opposite. the deal isn't essential, as pilchard said, but it is a kind of recognition of the talent in ireland at the mo.
