No band is worth this much hype. NME readers voted the album in the top 5 albums of all time, crazy.

if I started to reply to this post, it would probably make an Op-Ed. So maybe I'll save it for that. You have been warned.

i really like the album, but i have to say that i really like the kooks album which came out on friday. and i have been playing both equally. i thought the hype was ok at the start but its getting a bit much now. but i think they are worthy of some hype and if people are buying a good cd instead of the crazy frog it cant be a bad thing

They played in Belfast around this time last year and were really well received.People have been talking about this group for a while now, in fact the talk and rumours etc..was not that dissimilar to the interest in our very own Humanzi at present.
The album is a little repetitive but live they're excellent and frankly all the hype, hysteria or whatever isn't a bad thing. The fact that a rock band are topping the charts in single and album is good for the industry. While they may not necessarily be as good as their peers, Maximo Park, Hard-Fi, We are Scientists or whoever depending on opinion; teenagers who are flocking to buy the album may get interested in these groups and others alike. Whats wrong with that? Has nobody here EVER been sixteen and excited as hell about a new rock band??? Cos sixteen year olds are the heads who vote in the silly polls run by the beano (i mean NME)
So it ISN'T the end of the bloody world, there will be perhaps a hundred bands in the next twelve months that will be better or more obscure or whatever but a little excitement in a new band is kinda cool do you not think?
Rant Finito.

I like the album alot, damn for a first effort. Hopefully its not a flash in the pan.
Hype is just the business of salespeople selling stuff.
Hype doesnt (or shouldnt) increase or decrease the quality of an album.

The amount of coverage they have been getting in the last while has been quite staggering. I believe they were on the 10 O'Clock news last nite. It kinda reminds me of the whole Oasis thing 10 years ago. Dunno what to make of them myself. A little bit raw but maybe they will grow on me.

I say fair play to them. I bought the album, and like it alot. There has been better albums out in the last while which dont get as much hype but that ain't their fault. Judging from their interviews they seem very grounded and they tend to shy away from the limelight.
Nobody could ever be worthy of the hype NME throw at people. They are constantly bandwagoning and proclaiming the new saviours of rock music. To bastardize a Beatles lyric "music is what happens while NME are busy making other plans"

Assuming by hype you mean the manufactured variety, then it is a bit distasteful, and it does cheapen what it's associated with. Not fatally or anything, I think, but it is a wee bit sad.
As distinguished from people hearing something and being excited and making tapes of it for their friends and so on.

You can see a few of them chomping on breakfast rolls in Mother Hubbards, last time I checked...
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Arctic Monkeys have been covered by Sugababes.
The girl group are set to release their version of 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' as the B-side to their upcoming single 'Red Dress'.
In October, Arctic Monkeys knocked Sugababes' 'Push The Button' from the top of the UK singles chart when they released the song.

arctic monkeys? savage!
as for hype, it wouldn't work if the songs were no good, and they've resisted offers to have their tunes used as ringtones and on ads, which has to be a plus in the integrity stakes.
didn't their album just beat the beatles as fastest selling debut?

Yeah the Arctic Monkeys got the fastest selling record ever, over the beatles. Have to say the arctic monkeys are very talented youngsters and have alot of time in front of them. If anyone does not agree with the hype or does not like their present type of music, then give it a few years till the hype stops and i'll bet you will change your opinions, as they will have more musical experience.
