from reading the Q top 100 i guess i was a little surprised to see radiohead at one and two. in my opinion it only goes to show the uselessness and irelevancy of such lists but especially that one. its been a while since i listened to radiohead at all, and im not more inclined to do so now. at the time i loved both albums (more so the bends) however now, i wouldnt really be bothered listening to either. im sure most people will agree they are good albums, but were they over-rated? if they hadnt come along at those precise moments would they have be as popular then or now? despite agreeing that they are very good albums, do many people still actively choose to listen to those radiohead albums?

Boring. That's only how I feel about them mind, as there are plenty of RHead fanatics/freaks out there who would burn me at the stake for such heresy.

I love Radiohead and would have OK Computer as my all time #1. But it is a little bit zeitgeisty with all the pre-millenial angst. Despite that I still think that it's full of great songs and musically unparallelled.
I don't find them too depressing, maybe if you asked me to listen to this album I'd agree,

I still listen to Ok Computer. Amazing album, amazing. Blew me away when I first heard it. Left it for a while, then listened to it again(when I was a little older and wiser), even more amazing. Takes you on quite a journey that album does.
I've never found Radiohead depressing. I never find good music depressing.
Radiohead are boring? thats just wrong.
But there ya are that's just my opinion. I don't give a s**te about Q lists. Like I said on this forum before, Stop giving credence to the British press, for f**ks sake.,

the best radiohead album for me is kid a, as a complete work it sits together better than ok computer does - to my ears anyway!
ok computer is (nonetheless) a wonderful album and the further we move away from its release the more evident it's importance will be imho
as for the depressing tag that habitually surfaces when radiohead are being discussed, it simply doesn't wash! for me radiohead's music is genius and so, irrespective of it's subject matter, it is always uplifting. that famous cs lewis quote 'we read to know we're not alone' applies not only to literature but to music, film, theatre etc. and no matter how downbeat or 'depressing' a subject can be the fact that somewhere in there is a flicker of recognition of ourselves, our collective plight as humans, is something to be comforted by (at least in some part non?)
anyway i digress, in terms of listening to radiohead, despite them being one of my favourite bands, i rarely ever listen to them but when i do it is a stark reminder of just how far ahead of the pack they are.....in many ways they are the yardstick!

I haven't listened to Radiohead in yonks but i wouldn't call their music depressing. It's relevant, it's angsty, it's meditative and it's a benchmark. Actually, i'm long over-due a revisit. Played the hell out of both The Bends and OK Computer and that's probably why i haven't been back in so long.
I wouldn't be able to pick a "Number 1" album of all time because it would change every day. I always try to resist the urge to compartmentalise and order but sometimes it gets the better of me.
The Irish Music Press? Meh! I find, in general, that the staples tend to be fawning and sycophantic when it comes to Irish bands even if they are s**te bands. Especially Hot-Press. Some of the free mags are okay and Foggy Notions (previous thread refers i think) is probably the best IMHO but it needs to grow bigger balls and get personal rather than trying to present a neutral view of the artists it covers. I like opinions whether i disagree with them or not.
