From today Irish Times. Stones gig prompts High Court action Two major concert promoters have become involved in High Court proceedings over who will promote the Rolling Stones concert in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, in August. Noel Travers, counsel for Dún Laoghaire-based MCD Promotions Ltd, told Mr Justice Roderick Murphy yesterday that MCD had learned of the intention of the Office of Public Works (OPW) to award running the concert to rival Aiken Promotions. Mr Travers said the OPW had advertised the handling of the concert by public tender and MCD, which had submitted a tender, believed the OPW's decision to award the concert to Aiken Promotions was imminent. He said MCD intended legally challenging the OPW decision and leave for a judicial review was to have been sought today. However, the OPW agreed not to make a decision before January 9th. Mr Travers said MCD had been informed by the OPW by e-mail on December 21st and by fax the following day that it had been unsuccessful in its tender. Judge Murphy adjourned the application until January 9th.

The Rolling Stones have always given the ageing process a good name, capable of gyrating and strutting their way through a gruelling world tour more than 40 years after first bounding on to the stage. But while they may be able to set the pace on stage, the original bad boys of rock and roll, with a combined age of 245, would be banned from the audience at their next performance because they are too old. The National Football League, organisers of next month's Super Bowl, the American football season's grand finale, is offering 2,000 people a chance to watch the band play during the February 5 extravaganza at Detroit's Ford Field - but only if they are under 45. Only people of 45 and younger will be allowed to take the field during the Stones' halftime show because they will be expected to dance, sing and cheer in front of a worldwide TV audience of more than 100 million. The NFL says the reason for the age limit is that the job is physically challenging. Volunteers must enter and exit the field quickly and be on their feet for long periods. They will not have seats and will wait in a tunnel under the stadium for most of the first half.

Ah three great evils involved in a battle to make the most they can. In one corner you have MCD everyones least favourite with their almost monoply of the major events in the state and in the other Aitken promotions all mouth and a couple of major victories in the last few years, but still the underdog. An in the middle the Irish Legal system already choaked up and backlogged but about to put it's two cent in for the venrebul Sir. Mick and co. to see who can make the most money possible for Rolling Stones Ltd. I don't really know why I'm complaiing becuause I'll go to the gig anyway, but they better play "Dead Flowers" or "Salt of the Earth", this time or I'll threaten not to go and see them when their 70 and go still.

The biggest money grabber here is the f**king Rolling Stones. I like when MCD and Aiken fight. It's funny.
