why not list the new acts that were voted for? kind of like a 'ones to watch' list for 2006?

I also dont understand how Interpol at the Olympia was chosen over Interpol at Oxegen... the latter was by far the superior show.

So Bell X1's 'Flock' is the third best 'non-debut' (!?) album released in the world in 2005?????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????? So 'Flock' is a better album than this year's fantastic albums from LCD Soundsystem, Sigur Ros,Boards Of Canada, Vashti Bunyan,Brian Eno, Sons and Daughters, Ryan Adams,Beck, Mercury Rev, Emiliana Torrini, Sun Kil Moon, Mark Eitzel,Broken Social Scene and Rilo Kiley???? Wow, I better check out 'Flock'. It sounds like an absolute masterpiece!!!!

It's called "voting". I've got more of an issue with Gemma Hayes topping the wimmins poll. That is to say, I don't give a s**t but am rather surprised. Is this the first year that the Frames haven't appeared on the list?

I can see how democracy works but I cannot see how any single group of music fans could vote Bell X1 as album of the year. I cannot fanthom this at all. It's GUBU. At first I thought maybe it's irish album of the year, but no, it seems its album of the year. I never agree with opinion polls, no one does but i can see the rationale behind them. However, I cannot see how flocks can be number one other than they are irish

2 decent songs on the second disc, very good live though.

One of those bands that people love but don't vote for

Not heard it yet but electro is gonna find it hard to break into an indie poll

    Vashti Bunyan
*Insert snide comment about reading uncut*

    Brian Eno
    Not heard it yet

    The Johnny Cash guys?

    Ryan Adams
Which one? I was let down by his first 2 and haven't heard 29 yet although I am looking forward to it.

    Beck
    Is OK.

    Mercury Rev
Dullest band on the planet, I do like Deserters Songs though.

Emiliana Torrini Sun Kil Moon Mark Eitzel
Not heard any of these yet

It's not the award for most dissapointing follow up to a truly great album.

    and Rilo Kiley????
Jenny Lewis is a very clever lyricist and they write good pop-songs but I find them to be a bit lightweight. Getting annoyed about end of year polls is really dumb, doesn't mean the winners are any good or not, it's just a cross section of opinions.

Is it not #3? For the record it was my #7 for the year, it's not like my (or anyone else's) opinion actually counts though.

This is her second album. Her debut came out in 1970!! I stopped reading Uncut a couple of year's because of its obseesion with everything retro and its morbid fascination with John Lennon. 'Takk' is a masterpiece and should have been voted for. Also, is the Cluas Poll the only Music Poll in the world, print,Online or otherwise that hasn't included the overrated Antony and the Johnsons in there somewhere? No Frames! Brilliant!

I think Antony may have been missing from the Smash Hits poll too.

Actually, now I look more closely, I think the vote might have been for 'Best Irish Band 2005' rather than just 'Best Band 2005' as published. Certainly I remember voting for 'Delorentos' and 'Pony Club' whereas if it were to include non-Irish, my choice would have been different. If this is the case, I think it is a pretty solid choice in every category. Personally I don't rate the Anthony and the Johnsons album so not too suprised it didn't feature.

it must have been best irish band,i was dissappointed by Flock but still love em too much to completely disregard it so im happy enough with where it is,tho Bell x1 for live act in "various venues" makes it seem like their name was just being thrown out for everything- sure we are all irish so its only natural that there's favouritism towards irish acts

I've just noticed that in fourth place under the 'best live performance' are our old friends again Bell X1. The fourth best gig of 2005 was at 'various venues' Are they really that good? I always considered them a plodding, fair-to-middling band, stuck in the usual futureless Irish rock ghetto, paying smallish to medium sized venues throughout the country and releasing solid if rather unremarkable albums every couple of years in the vain hope that they might eventually gain some recognition in the UK and possibly the States but in all likelihood will be met with indifference...but here they are best band!!, third best album in the world in 2005!! and in a year packed with amazing live performances, Bell X1 make it to number 4 in 'best live performance' category and that's not in just one venue, mind, it's in 'various venues'. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

BellX1 were great live before the second album came out. After that every time I've seen them they've been a mess.
