Mixed in with the trite there are some goldies. My favourite is Low's 'Just Like Christmas' which has the best sleigh bells ever put in a song. What's your favourite?

I really like Ron Sexsmith's Maybe This Christmas. Pretty.
The Sufjan Steven's three volume Christmas song thingymacwotsit that's knockin around cybertown is quite nice. I like his version of O Come O Come Emmanuel. Get's me in the mood. For Christmas.

Is the reason no one has mentioned "Fairytale of New York" yet because they know that doing so will make all other suggestions redundant?

Actually, I have a track by - wow its Rufus Wainwright, never checked the track list until now, which is a fine Xmas song entitled 'Spotlight on Christmas' which is very fine.
Personally, 'Santa (Straight to the Ghetto)' by James Brown is, in my opinion, the best ever xmas song.

They only stuck some bells in that to make it a Christmas song! Want a Christmas hit? Got a ballad handy? Stick some bells on it!
My fave apart from Fairytale is Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song". Can't beat the classics.

The beautiful and comforting 'Last Christmas' by Wham has to fill all my Christmas stocking with joy and festive moods. Really their finest produce and an epic track of the eighties.
