Hotpress Magazine want to find out what you consider to be the most important albums of all time by female artists. What you have to do: name your five fave albums - and explain your top choice. They'll let you know what the consensus is and print the best submissions in an upcoming issue of Hot Press. Gotta get em in before Friday 2 December. Vote for any of the albums listed, and/or add your own choice. When you've picked five, click the Proceed button and you'll be asked to rank your albums in order of preference. this is a hard one... first thoughts: bjork - post PJ Harvey - songs from the city/songs from the sea (think that's the correct title) Drug store (female vocalist) - white magic for lovers Nina Simone Patty Smith - Horses Gemma Hayes - Night On My Side

I'd agree with Bjork, PJ Harvey, Patti Smith and Nina Simone. But then there's Kate Bush, Aretha Franklin, Ann Peebles, Joni Mitchell, Joana Newsom, The Slits, Billie Holiday, Minne Riperton, Marlena Shaw, Cocorosie, Cat Power, The Breeders...

So will there be a simialr vote for the menfolk?? I always find these kind of token gestures somewhat embarrasing and just a bit patronising.

Jordan Andre, Victoria 'I had a polo mint for lunch s**t pass the laxitives' Beckam, Cheeky Girls, Rachel 'Goldfrappaccino' Stevens, Lisa 'When will I be famous' Scott Lee....they're female..does that by default make them worthy of a mention??!! My favourite woman of the year is my mam...does that count?!

in an ideal world it would just be a list of the most important albums of all time in which female artists would be as well represented as men, it is very patronising to form lists like this

That's one of my all time favourite songs!!! A like minded-soul, Sir! It's been ages since she's done any new stuff, I think she's just copying Kate Bush and wants to be all enigmatic and stuff.
