Is it just me or does nearly every Irish band around have a lousy name?

Well no, that's a bit of a sweeping generalisation, its pretty tough to come up with just an ok band name so a really great one is nigh on impossible. I remember when Bellx1 first appeared i thought they were a boy band purely because of the name

To be fair I deal exclusively in sweeping generalisations.
Ham Sandwich, d**k Sambo, BellX1, Soft Cuddly Toys, Michael Knight, Warlords of Pez, Jaded Sun, Sungdogs, Soviet Filter, Stars of the City, Dark Room Notes, Morning Stardust. Bad names all. I know how hard it is to come up with a band name, was just struck by the wealth of bad band names around is all.
The notable exception is The Mighty Stef, when coupled with 'and his band of men'

I think you've got it backward with Warlords of Pez - brilliant name, rubbish band. One of the few gigs I've just walked out of after two songs.

Just another one joke "hilarious" band that's not actually funny. It's not like they have an excuse either, they're not even from Cork, like...

warlords of pez, saw them in crawdaddy for Bud Rising. Bad name, bad joke. Maybe it's me, but I just didn't see it and still don't.

We had a series of really long discussions about band names over the course of 2 months before settling on one (Nanobot for those interested) and pretty much decided that unless the name is truly horrendous if the band are good then the name becomes good (The Beatles, Radiohead) if it's a bad band then a name isn't gonna do much for them.

ah, so that's what is missing from my life! Im not enjoying the finer pleasures of seeing an average band stick pointless objects on their heads! And I thought religion would save my soul! Cheers

they are s**t. they know they are s**t. they have a song called "warlords are s**t". they're purile and stupid. not all musicians have to be earnest, considered and po-faced. if your looking for salvation in your music, yeah, go somewhere else. i only saw them once, and thought they were funny.

Not all musicians have to be po-faced an earnest... I think you're preaching to the converted on that front, however the music itself needs to be good and if you're setting your stall out as a comedy band, then you need to be funny, otherwise you just become Goldie Looking Chain, hilarious for five minutes then just pointless.
Neosupervital proves that you can inject really good tunes with a healthy dose of humour, I've also seen a "folk parody comedy duo" called Flight of the Conchords, who were purely a comedy act, yet had better tunes than the Warlords (not to mention most bedsit angst songwriters) and were a hell of lot funnier. Warlords just aren't funny. Of course humour is purely a personal subjective thing I suppose.

I actually dig GLC very much! Very humerous bunch of lads! Nothing wrong with a bit of craic every now and again!
