Is that really David Gray on the cover of Hotpress. I know they're a bunch of whore-beasts, but surely they wouldn't sink THAT low. Say it aint so?

I've flicked through that issue and apparently White Ladder is the biggest selling album in Irish history. Now that's low.

How did they fit his enormous face on the cover?

yawn yawn , lets all bash david gray , james blunt etc etc. How is that worse than say westlife , the corrs , ronan keating on the cover ? and as for white ladder I still think it's a good album , problem was it was totally overplayed in the media. I for one respect the fact that he took the chance to record it , as far as I know his wife had to put up most of the money for the album as he'd been dropped by his company at the time , now that takes serious self belief and trust and that to me should be saluted not knocked because the style of music is mainstream.

Yes, more into quantum physics here, his face exists on the cover in several different possible states at once in line with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Quantum mechanics also state that particles can appear in places where they have no right to be, which might explain why "White Ladder" had such a run in the album charts.

Anyone see the awful show in SkyOne last week, 'Shameful secrets of the 90s' ?
One of them was the introduction of CD sales into Supermarkets, the Tesco & Asdas of the world. Basic arguement was that your mam & dad never went into the traditional home of record selling, the music shop.
A case of bringing the mountain to Mohammed.

Have to agree. I remember when Gray first came on the scene the only DJ to play him was Donal Dineen. I thought at the time it was good. Have to admit that time has tempered how I feel, possibly because he has sparked off a thousand annoying clones.

people's tastes change. i wouldnt listen to him now, but it doesnt mean white ladder is a s**t album and surely if he independently released ireland's biggest ever selling album he deserves a bit of credit and the cover of hotpress every now and again.

I don't care if he's 'mainstream' or not - his music is still boring, annoying mediocraty on a disc IMO

Only on Cluas would you find a backlash AND an attempted rehabilitation of an artist in the same thread.
I'm with Mick, he's had some decent tunes and doesn't deserve the vitriol.

....by the way, I should point out out that I too mysteriously appear to have a copy of White Ladder in my collection and even more bizarrely it manages to find its way into my CD player occasionaly. Now how did that get there? damned quantum physics I tell you! ...and that schroedingers cat keeps leaving fur all over the sofa too.

I don't have 'White Ladder' - shock horror - but I do have a copy of 'Sell, Sell, Sell' (which didn't actually and resulted in him being dropped by EMI) and a fine record it is too. The boy done well.
