Is anyone looking forward to any upcoming releases? It always seems that this period (post Summer/ pre Winter) is the worst for albums to be launched. But maybe that could be changing this year with new offerings from.....
Eric Clapton
Rolling Stones
Franz Ferdinand
David Gray
Gemma Hayes
Paul McCartney
Ryan Adams
Dirty Three
Death Cab For Cutie
Laura Veirs
Sigur Ros
Elbow
Nada Surf
Grandaddy
Eric Bibb
Neil Young

Not a bad list there. I duno if you noticed but gemma hayes's gig has been moved from whelans to the village apparently.
Defo looking forward to her album along with nada surfs and grandaddy's.
Not quite sure about Franz Ferdinand. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Bit like waiting for the second strokes album in that you wonder how they can progress the style
You could add Pete yorns new album to that list. Thats the big one for me at the moment.

Yea looking forward to hearing some of those
Franz - as Klootfan said be interesting to see where they'll go with it.
Dirty Three - pretty much guaranteed good stuff there.
Death Cab for Cutie - Ditto... but why is there not some more Postal Service Releases?!
Sigur Ros - Heard it on that stream in the links section. As always with Sigur Ros new releases take a bit of effort for me so i'm as yet undecided on that one. Cant wait for the Gig tho.
Nada Surf - I actually dont know too much about these guys...my only memory of them is watching Alternative Nation mid 90's and liking that song 'Popular'!

Oh and Depeche Modes new album (the first in 4 years) 'Playing the Angel'is out on Oct 17th.
It the first ever time that Dave Gahan (singer) will be having a hand in the songwriting duties
so it'll be interesting to see how it sounds.
In fairness tho the fact was Exciter was their last album doesnt mean they have a lot
to live up to - what a terrible terrible album.

Benni, if you have the money, check nada surf out in the village on september 6th. Seriously, popular is a great song, but they have moved on quite alot since then and their new material, in my humble opinion, is quality. although we discussed this last year and alot of people didnt think much of em, but thats opinions for you, everyone has a different one :)

Maybe! if I have the funds - there's just so much on over the next few weeks - Adam Green on 25th Aug, then HWCH that weekend, then E Picnic the next and Editors w/support from CH-1 on Sept 8th... dont know if my bank manager likes me that much as it is!!!

Yeah, im really looking forward to the editors gig, ive managed to supress the message in the back of my mind thats constantly reminding me how similar they are to other bands.
I cant make the picnic, although id loved to have caught the arcade fire, and ive passed on HWCH ( what a line up eh !) in favour of a going away weekend for a mate.

Yea I've only started to give irish bands a chance lately and I've been really quite surprised. I'm prety much looking forward to Betamax Format, Dark Room Notes and The Things mostly... pity CH-1 aint at that either - I hate to go on about them so much cause one of the guys in the band runs B. Connection with me and I wouldnt want people to think I was just upping a mates band yknow! Its nothing to do with that really cause I only know him since the club started....
They're just absolutely class.. I was really blown away when I saw them for the first time supporting Humanzi a few weeks back. Without a doubt one of the best bands in Ireland at the moment.
Re: Editors there are simiarities of course but have you heard the album yet? Songs like Fingers in the Factories and the few tunes on it that dont follow the style they're associated with are actually the better songs by far.

I think with all these gigs piling up, it would be worth it going broke for a while after. I'll be heading to Artic Monkeys, Adam Green, Hard Working Class Heroes, Electric Picnic, Nada Surf, Editors, Bloc Party, The National. Been listening to Editors 'The Back Room' all morning, it just keeps getting better!!!

Cripple Crow by Devendra Banhart, The Mouse And The Mask by DangerDoom (Danger Mouse + M.F. DOOM) and the Craft by Blackalicious.
I have the Devendra and DangerDoom albums already and they're both class.

Gar or anyone, were you lucky enough to get the double cd "The Back Room" with the B-Side disc? Couple of mind blowing tracks on it. "Let your good heart lead you home" and "Release" are incredible.

stroller, is it called 'Cripple Crow'? Mr. Banhart informed me he had changed the name to 'Purple Crow'. Then again, he's not the most dependable source - even for matters of himself.

I dunno. My friend got sent a promo of the album from the record company back in July that was called Cripple Crow but it was only a CDR with a typed track listing. No official cover art had been finalised at that point so it's quite possible that he's changed the title in the mean time.
