Following on from the thread about under-rated acts, how about albums which you know and love as 24-carat, 100% masterpieces but are completely unknown or ignored by the world? What favourite records have you discovered by word of mouth, mix tapes, living in another country....? What album would you recommend as a lost classic? The more obscure the better!!!
I'll start by mentioning some which my friends are probably sick of me raving about;
- The Magnetic Fields '69 Love Songs'
- Katell Keineg 'Jet'
- The 6ths 'Hyacinths and Thistles'
- Jonathan Richman 'I'm So Confused'
- Serge Gainsbourg 'Histoire de Melody Nelson'
- Alpha 'Come From Heaven'

Jesse Malin, 3rd album on the way. Not as successful as his mate Ryan Adams but quality all the same

Damien Jurado. An american guy who sings striped down folk music, but who has also been know to knock out a pretty decent rock album. Playing whelans soon. My favourite album of his would be "I break chairs". Quality.

this is the first mention I have EVER seen of Faultline bar my own rantings about the sheer magnificence of the man involved. Wow.....
and then there's
Tim Buckley "Starsailor" - the only tim buckley album that you have to hear and the only one which has never been reissued cos of contract problems. A work of genius
Mary Margaret O'Hara "Miss America" - mentioned it on the under-rated thread and then dug it out last night and realised what an absolute classic it is
Shuggie Otis "Inspiration Information" - the summer album every summer
Pressure Drop "Tearing Down The Silence" - awesome London dubby-rock act who released a couple of classics on Leftfield's label
Ted Hawkins "Watch Your Step" - picked this up again at the start of the summer and am remembering why I loved it so much.
Tim Hardin "Hang Onto Your Dream" - doomed folkie who out Nick Drake-d Nick Drake
Silver Apples "Silver Apples/Contact" - for anyone who thinks the flaming lips are original....
United States of America "United States of America" - and just in case you still think that the flaming lips are an one-off.....
Gil Evans "Out of the Cool" - Miles Davis arranger's superfly solo run

Shuggie Otis! Oh yes. The glory of "Strawberry Letter 23" must be heard by one and all before it's too late and summer ends. It's on the reissue, if not on the original. The man was about 21 years old!

I dont think it's that obscure but Of Montreal's "Satanic Panic In The Attic" is excellent. Was given it in Canada recently but theyrer not Canadian, despite the name. Fans of SFA, The Shins and Beatles and Beach Boys harmonies LISTEN UP!

if you like 'just like blood' you should definately get his first and third albums - they're even better! couple of irish albums that deserve a little more attention (in my humble opinion):
pierce turner: '3 minute world'
paul tiernan: 'belle'

Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions - Bavarian Fruit Bread
I heard a song on the radio one night and just had to get it. She probably has the best voice ever! I fall in love everytime she sings. Bert Jansch pops up on a few tracks aswell, especially Butterfly Mornings, just beautiful

i'm serious - i've been banging on about that album for a couple of years and have been met with blank faces every time. This is an album, after all, which has Coldplay's Chris Martin, REM's Stipe, Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, Joseph Arthur etc
Elle, u have FANTASTIC taste in music!
