I've always reckoned those "driving rock" compilations that come out every so often were pretty innapropriate music for the car (besides being loaded with dadrock) and now I have proof, well sort of.
According to a recent survey of motorist and accident rates the safest songs are:
Disco 2000 - Pulp
Don't Cha Wanna Ride - Joss Stone
Heya - OutKast
They can't take that away from me - Frank Sinatra
Canon in D - Pachelbel
Light - Talvin Singh
The worst are:
Firestarter - The Prodigy
Start the Riot - Atari Teenage Riot
Kim - Eminem
The Was it Isn't - DJ Jurgen
Pomp and Circumstance March no.1 - Elgar
Arrival of the Queen of Sheba - Handel

So those of you with a driving license, what do you reckon the best driving music is? What music do you reckon turns you into a raging loony Darth Vader with a drivers license and conversely what makes you a peaceful relaxed driving Jedi?

what turns me into a road hog is music radio in this country, especially 2fm and today fm when its not Donal Dineen or tom dunne. i mean, just how innane can it get?
good driving music - right now, its the Magic Numbers. the kind of music that makes me wish i had a convertible rather than a toyota which would be rejected by pimp my ride. i also like Springsteen's "Born To Run" (perfect for latenight jaunts up or down the country), Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and The Beatles

Don't know if this counts, but my fav song when I'm on the way to a surf session is 'I Get Around' by The Beach Boys. Cliched I know, but I don't play it on the cd, I sing it.

Cliche? nah, that never gets old. You should try get a couple of mates to try the harmony bits too ala the Bohemian Rhapsody scene in waynes world
Pilchard - Marvin Gaye is definitely a good choice, definitley helps reduce aggro in the car. I think its the "thinking about your fellow man and global harmony" type vibe of the record. I know that sounds corny but its true, The red mist is less is likely to come down when thats on the stereo.
I find that some albums that you think would have a calming effect definitely don't. Listening to "A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane in the car is annoying because it just sounds really harsh against the acoustics of the small, relatively noisy place that is the inside of a car (well, my car anyway).

The one and only time I crashed, I was listening to Galaxie 500, who were ironically enough, I think, named after a car!
Oh, I came out of it fine too.

I quite like listening to Galaxie 500 too, better be careful, wonder if Luna or Damon and Naomi has the same effect?
I crashed a car coming home from a frames gig once, theres a lesson in there somewhere, but I can't think what is right now....

If I drove, I would most likely sing The Joker in the manner of Homer Simpson.
"Some people call me Maur-eece, Wah Waaaarrrr!"

Mogwai "Like Herod" great song but no good for driving because you always end up turning it up for the quiet bit, then you're hit by all the amps at 11.
I kind of like Smog's Held or Cold Blooded old times, or that song from the recent modest mouse album, you know the one.
Or try the Chain by Fleetwood Mac if you drive a crap Glanza/Impreza/Lancer with sports exhaust and neon. Maybe we'll all get lucky.
