well worth checking out and really good value for so many bands....
the hundred or so acts that are getting offered a slot at the prestigious Hard Working Class Heroes Festival 2005. Selected by over 25 judges including the likes of Thrills & Humanzi manager Allan Cullivan.
With over 641 entries to whittle down, the judges were kept busy as they tried to place the top runners and riders for the August festival. Taking place in Dublin on the 26th, 27th and 28th August HWCH is sure to a veritable horde of A & R men Liffeyside.
One way or another, log on to http://www.hwch.net/home.html where tickets are now on sale. The site will soon feature sights and sounds from all the bands along with announcements of those *oh so special* guests.
This, the festival's third year, is promising to be both the most ambitious and innovative yet and with the potential lineup below - PLUS a number of special guests!! - it's going for a high on the richter scale in terms of excitement. ...

Some pretty good acts there, alot from last year though.....I was kind of expecting some of them not to do it again. But all the better to see good acts. Looking forward to it.

i thought HWCH was one of last year's best weekend festivals - certainly well priced at 25 euros for the weekend.
one thing though - a lot of these bands played last year and, while i'm sure its about having something for everyone, is there anyone in this town who really thinks the likes of Turn, The Walls and Sack are remotely new or interesting? surely their spaces could have been given to brand new acts? anyone know why this is the case? and who picks the bands?

Plichard, they prob needed those acts to get in the average punter dollar, as the late mr hicks might have phrased it. i know what you mean, but money is a large chunk of what its all about at the end of the day.

It's held in a number of venues around Dublin eg. St. Michael's Church, TBMC, Eammon Dorans, Meeting House Square. I presume there will be more info over coming weeks up over at www.hwch.net

I would definitely recommend people to go to see 'the immediate. I saw them once, back in June and they were fantastic live, they are very different to a lot of the dublin bands around at the minute

Bands I might go see:
8 Ball - saw them support JJ72 in the Hub once. Good enough stuff.
Amazing Pilots - really good at the launch of HWCH, nice album too
Chuzzle - by far one of the best new acts in Ireland. Brilliant songs, different dramatic pop, brilliant band accomp. too
Dry County - love the EP, have yet to see them live
Leya - great new single, they were missed at Oxegen
Mainline - BRMC ripoff? shall go and see
Messiah J and the expert - OMG isn't this meant to be, like, rawk. Entertaining stuff though. Have seen them doing a bunch of support slots, considering nobody else gets a look in at a hiphop gig in Dublin
Niall James Holohan - released more albums than all of these bands put together? inventive, constant
The Bleedin Bleedins - great Boston/Irish rock and roll
The Immediate - probably the best band Dublin has produced in the last couple of years. Absolutely excellent.
