Every Move A Picture supported Republic of Loose last wednesday in crawdaddy, if you like 80's style, the killers, the bravery, anything along these lines then imo this is a band to top them all. though a short set, i thought it was seriously great, and the crowd definitely got behind them! Editors supported Departure, friday in whelans, joy division gone 21st century, they rocked... personally i think they out shone departure (wish id gone next door to see magic numbers instead of hanging on for departure), editors, great sound, lots of guitars. so i was well impressed with both support acts and will definitely be catching them on thier return trips! anyone else catch them, what did you think?

Yeah, was there for Every Move a Picture. I think we were all thinking the same thing: are they a parody of every now band, or did they always sound and look like some laboratory synthesis of every new-wave 80s synth pop-rock group on the go at the moment? (used synth-word twice ) If they are the real thing, I hope a Spinal Tap type pastiche of this new scene is on the way. EMAP were toe-tappingly good, if brief. Didn't see the Editors or Departure. All this Joy Division, early 80s worship is too much for me. Doubt we'll be listening to any of these acts in three years time, except for the Killers. And Republic of Loose rocked.

joy division dont sound anything like the bravery or the killers. just because you have natty drum beats and a few synths does not mean you sound like joy division. just because joy division were around in the 80s and you want to sound like an 80s band does not mean you sound like joy division. comparissons are lazy descriptions (unless something is being ripped off). and it's starting to annoy me.

I'm not saying that all these bands sound just like Joy Division, Una, just that they are clearly influenced by them. This is clear not just from the sound but from the interviews and bios of these bands. Just to be clear: I love the drumming from Joy Division, the album art, and New Order weren't all that bad. The downside to the Curtis legacy is the strange belief that morose frontmen who can't sing are somehow brave, credible or artistic, while lifeless dirges are given a gloss by playing drums, bass and cutting guitar a bit fast. The current fad for 100mph pop-rock will pass, and we'll look back on some of the current clonebands the same way we shudder at the thought of Echobelly, Shed Seven or the Bluetones. None of which stops Franz Ferdinand, Maximo Park and the Arcade Fire from being fab.

i also didnt say that the killers or the bravery sound at all like joy division... the joy division comparison was about the editors. myself, im a big JD fan, have been since i was a kid in the 80's. i to get annoyed by comparisons, but sometimes they have to be made, and in the case of editors, its far too noticeable to go unmentioned. my reference to the killers and the bravery was more to genre than anything else, but i think EMAP are the real thing. also, imo, its understandable that there is so many clonebands out there as this is the music that they to grew up listening to and its natural that influences will come out in their music. personally i think both bands i mentioned will be around for a while as i think they have that something extra that many others lack.

yeah, I wasn't just commenting on what you said, per se, but the fact that Joy Division seem to be referenced in every single article on a new band at the moment.

Yea I thought The Editors were savage... everyone seems to be saying they out did The Departure big time. Altho i thought both bands were excellent but Editors were just shockingly good... they gave it everything. That stage was certainly too small for the singer! Cant wait for oxegen now!
