So what did you all think of Cormac Looneys piece on the 10 greatest bloke songs of all time? (http://www.cluas.com/opinion/top_10_bloke_songs.htm) Personally I have to say none of those songs would have immediatelly sprung to mind for me if I was compiling the same list, but then it wasn't a subject I'd given a lot of thought. If you could pick one or more bloke songs, to include, what would it be? (it goes without saying that you don't need to be a bloke to offer an opinion here!) I would probably pick "409" by the Beach Boys. Most Blokes like their cars, the Beach Boys wrote a lot of car songs, but 409 takes blokey automotive obsession one step further. The 409 of the title refers not to a car, but an engine, the Chevy 409, as in 409 Cubic inches, Chevys' biggest engine at the time. Basically the gist of the whole tune is bragging my engines bigger than yours, my cars faster than yours, I'm gonna beat you at the drag strip. To put it in context, if Brian wilson was a young man, growing up this side of the atlantic a couple of decades later, he'd probably be sitting in a pub bragging "My Cossie 2.9 will blow your XR3i int the weeds mate!" Doesn't get much more blokey than that!

I would suggest pretty much all of the Afghan Whigs back catalog for a trawl through the blacker aspects of the male condition. Specifically, the album "Gentlemen" is well worth a listen.

I don't even know what a 'bloke song' is supposed to mean. Don't worry, as soon as I find out, I'll complain about the poll.

Yeah, its pretty hard to define what a bloke song is Una, but Gloria Gaynors "I will survive" is probably its exact polar opposite (except for Cakes' verion of course)
