Anyone go to the gig? Was Ray good? Any interesting/good support acts?

Absolutely amazing, from the moment he started singing mesmerised for the whole gig. Never been to the Village when it's been drop-dead silent for all the songs, complete respect and awe. His voice sent shivers down my spine, one of the best gigs I've been too in ages, really blown away by him. And so shy and sweet and appreciative as well, the album doesn't do him justice at all. Support acts weren't great unfortunately.

I have to agree with the last post. It was an amazing gig, that was definetly the most respectful audience I've ever seen at gig.
Ray is an amazing prescence, did a nice long set, but time flew by.
A really magical evening. Roll on the next visit.
There's a really nice post about the gig on Ray's uk website.

Sounds like it was good. Who supported?

Support was supposed to be Missy Higgins but instead we got a blonde lady- nice voice, lyrics were a little bit too obvious for my taste tho, and Shane Russell ,who I quite enjoyed, nice country tinged songs and a Crowded House cover.
Neither of the support acts introduced themselves though, maybe it was nerves..
Ray was definetly the star of the night, he's got amazing presence and seemed genuinely overwhelmed by people's positive reaction to him.
He also stayed on stage after the gig, talking to people and signing their cds..which was really sweet.. Let's hope success doesn't change him..

I didn't think the support acts were that great at all but that's ok because Ray was just superb. Ever since I picked up the album last year I've been waiting to see him live. And when it was moved from Whelan's to The Village I had my doubts about the sound quality and how the crowd would react. Thankfully everything fell into place nicely, what with the songs, his singing, the crowd, the sound and the general atmosphere. Really top class gig.

what a gig! i was worried when i saw the two support acts fail spectacularly to make any impact on the crowd at all, but from the minute ray walked onstage he had total control. great songs, great voice, stunning performance - and he seemed to genuinely enjoy and appreciate the crowd, which was nice. thought the (mini)-bass player and drummer were great too. long live the singer/songwriter!

Missy Higgins is excellent. Pity. Never heard of Shane Russell - does he have any releases?
Ray is great, can see him coming back to play the Point! Wonderful album.
