That's a good piece. I do think that some bands who are getting popular lately though will last i.e. Bloc Party, The Magic Numbers, The Arcade Fire.

sya goodbye to bloc party but the other two might last mostly because they make music for the sake of making music before they want to get famous .

very good album alright, definitely hope the same doesn't happen to the Arcade Fire. I read in an interview that they were very unhappy with all the promotion required of the first album, as they had no time to rehearse and work on new material...

Personally, I HATE when bands complain about s**t like that. If you want to spend the rest of your life playing in a f**king garage to your mates, then don't sign a record deal.

Err what? Bloc party will be around for years to come. I don't think they'll ever cross over and become household names like the Killers but I can see them maintaining a small but dedicated fan base. Plenty of bands make numerous good records but never become household names. Bands like Super Furry Animals or Eels or Belle & Sebastian are never going to headline the main stage at Oxegen but there'll always be a market for them as long as they keep on releasing quality albums. That's the type of category I see Bloc Party falling into. On a separate point Lamacq was spot on when he said that plenty of bands don't come good until their second album. Just look at Radiohead. Also I'd never heard of the Shins or Anthony & the Johnson until they'd released their sophomore albums.

Well to be fair to them I think they just got a shock about how the record took off on them, they basically went out on tour in a minibus in September and have had very little time off since then, they're probably in a nice tour bus by this stage though. They don't do press on gig days though.

completely with u on that one. no-one is forcing u to release your music and no-one is forcing u to talk to press/radio/TV. its often easier to just say no and, i dunno. cultivate some sort of mystique. or better still, go back to the garage and moan to your mates

yeah, although, some bands (due to poor managment, or being dumb), don't know what they get in for when they sign a record deal and end up being f**ked over. But I cant really sympathise with people complaining about promotion. "oh no, our record company is trying to get more people to listen to our music so they can make more money." as if that's not their job!
