Below is Liam Gallagher's hilarious attack on the current darlings of the UK indie music scene. Thank God there are still people like this guy around. But his own band are s**t too but he's still funny. In the current issue of NME, out nationwide today (April 27), the singer has attacked Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, Keane and Pete Doherty. Speaking about Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos, Gallagher said: “He reminds me of f**king Right Said Fred. You put on 'I’m Too Sexy For My f**king Thing' next to their records and I bet you any money it’s the same person. It’s the same f**king person! He’s just gone on the Atkins diet and grown his hair! Not my thing at all. I don’t like quirky, weird music. It’s not my cup of tea all that nonsense, million miles an hour music that’s not going anywhere.” Turning on Doherty, he added: “I’m not into smackheads. Smackheads need slaps… So what does the word Libertine mean? What does it mean? Freedom? He’s f**king in the corner doing smack with a helmet on his head! There’s nothing free about that. It’s nasty, innit? If the kids like them, fair enough, but they’re nowhere near like us. The music’s rubbish for start”. Scissor Sisters - who claimed that Oasis lacked respect for the Glastonbury crowd following their muted performance at last year’s event – were also slammed by Liam who retorted saying: “If that’s what they call entertaining then let them ‘av it - bright colours and f**king weirdos on stilts? I’m more entertaining than that c**t. And I’ll rip his f**king vocal chords out anyday because he’s f**king rubbish.” Even newcomers Kaiser Chiefs and Bloc Party weren’t safe from Gallagher’s acid tongue, with the singer describing the former as “a bad Blur” and the latter as “a band off University Challenge, like they’re sitting on a panel or something”. ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS, especially that bit about the ridiculous Bloc Party.I knew they collectively reminded me of something but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.Of Course, University Challenge.!!!!!!!!

Trust Liam Gallagher to see University Challenge as an incredibly negative thing. Thick bastard. I wish Oasis quit after two albums.

sees University Challenge as an incredibly nagative thing ??? cop on will you and read the f**king piece again ! jesus ! the comment is in direct reference to the band in question not University Challenge ! damn students ! look whatever you think of oasis musically these days, they are still capable of making excellent music at times, and so people will still like them for that as much as for what brilliance they have created in the past. And I still think its great to have them around because they fly in the face of all the blandness that seems to have infested itself in modern rock music, by that I mean the likes of Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and the dreadful Snow Patrol. Even Snow Patrol admitted on Pet Sounds the other week that there was nothing absolutly to them apart from the records themselves, which are anyway bland as f**k ! when has that ever been acceptable in Rock & Roll ???? Bollocks !

yeah, i know, i read in on NME first anyway. my point it, Liam Gallagher hates Bloc Party therefore equates them with something he hates more, ie Univeristy Challenge. he did the same thing to Coldplay when he called them "a bunch of Geography teachers". Are you actually serious in saying that Oasis, "fly in the face of all the blandess"? You must be taking the piss. Oasis could not be more mainstream. Their last three (and arguably, most of their last five albums) have reasserted blandness in rock music. Yeah, Snow Patrol are crap musically, bravo for pointing that out. And yes, Coldplay are a pop band, whatever. But Bloc Party are about 500 times more interesting than Oasis. And even Noel Gallagher conceded recently that Chris Martin "can write a f**king song". You say that Snow Patrol can't tell the difference between their records, well, what have Oasis said about their last three albums before they've been released. They just make some comment about it being same old same old meat and veg pub rock. And then when the album does s**t, Noel comes out and says "I hate the album anyway, it's crap". Yeah, Oasis really are exciting rocking pioneers. Very few people who come out (like Oasis did with WTSMG and Def/Maybe) as just another 5 piece imitating whatever has gone before them can be viewed as creating anything exciting in my book. It's boring, unadventurous, contrived; and whether or not you shove a few 8 balls, some fisty cuffs and popstar wives into the mix or not, it is, still bland. I would recommend going back the The Rapture: Echoes, if you want to hear where rock music should be going, and NOT buying Dont Believe The Truth, if only to see where it was.

this the same oasis we're talking about here?? the band who released some of the blandest music ever known?? the same ones???? cop on eoin - just because liam gallagher goes around mouthing off about various other acts (and the NME thinks this is the height of articulate comment and hillarity) does not make his band of meat and two veg rockers some kind of modern rock gods. when i read those comments from gallagher, i just went "f**k, they're back". here, Loaded mag has been relaunched, polo shirts are in and oasis will be releasing another grunting rock album, so are in we for another britpop laddish summer? hope not.

Actually, I was talking to Gerarld from Teenage Fanclub recently, and he made the exact same points, that rock music has come full circle in Britain, that the bands out now that have become popular are a direct reaction to the laddism of Oasis; the anti-intelligent, homophobic, confrontational approach now seems at direct odds with Franz Ferdinand, Libertines, Bloc Party who go around the place saying how much they love each other.

sorry, couldn't resist... una you'd better be careful - if you keep standing up for bloc party like this you'll have the official cluas.com conspiracy-theorist-in-residence on your case!

Una, got to say, great points there about Oasis. Never liked them myself and never saw what all the fuss was about. If you ask me, their first 2 albums were bland, yet some people reckon they're 2 of the greatest albums ever made. It's just my opinion, so if you do love those albums, that's great, I'm not looking for a fight.

yes unfortunately Una does seem to contdict herself a fair bit from topic to topic alright, and her counter argument to my post above is like a block of cheese it has that many holes in it. I don't remember the last time I was ever mis-represented as much as that but if it helps her to make a point go for it. I would agree strongly about the laddism point. I never really like going to see Oasis here cause to be honest the Dublin crowd they attract are somewhat w**kers but I have seen them in Le Zenith in Paris and there was none of that, it was weird crowd black dudes in their 50's with afros and stuff down the front going mental ! I couldnt believe it.But also you have to realise that on many occassions the likes of Coldplay and the Libertines sang the praises of Oasis, Chris Martin practically is in love with Noel Gallagher. Anyway, You'll like Oasis or you wont. I just wish people would do so for the right reasons, the music ! and oh,, the scraps and the......

Thats because it was in Paris. and yes, that was a bit of a contradiction about Sonw Pstrol; but i guess i did say ´crap musically´- because they seem to be very predictable with their choice of notes, i guess is what you could call that. I do think Oasis have a couple of brilliant songs, and it´s not as if they´ve cancelled that out with 3 rubbish albums that the Stereophonics probably would think twice about releasing, but they´ve made a good stab at it. I hope this album is amazing, because I like amazing music, but going by the first single it will probably more of the same. That said, ive seen a couple of goodish reviews, but only in the vein of ´this is better than the previous s**t albums´. and no, im not the 5th member of Bloc Party. It seems you cant big up a band on this board without someone thinking you´re shagging the drummer! (im not shagging the drummer)
