anyone else at the gig on Saturday night? i never actively sought a ticket but when a friend offered i decided to go along for the hell of it. i'd seen REM twice before, Slane and Lansdowne and thought maybe it would be interesting to see them in a more "intimate" setting (comparatively!). the first few songs were very samey - truth be told it's not a great offering this new album in my opinion - but it got better with the introduction of some of the classics although not enough to justify the € 65.00 price tag (i didnt realise the ticket would cost me that when i agreed to go!). another thing, Joey Waronker seems to have disappeared, whats that about? yer man the new drummer was solid though. there was no extended guitar play from Peter Buck, as if they had cut the songs in order to squeeze in more of the new stuff while still delivering the obvious favourites. Scott McClure bounced around like a spacehopper all night but it was bit like watching yer aul fella hopscotch at times. a good night but not a great night - and i expect a great night for €65, i think its only fair, don't you?

Dead right. For the bigger acts charging more (whoever it is charging these prices, it all stems back to the growing popularity of the act), they should provide something extra special to their crowds. I know R.E.M. are on a world tour but after it you probably won't see them for a few years. So in order to justify the outrageously high ticket prices, a great show (as John said) is expected.

Just have to say that the price paid to see Crosby & Nash in Vicar Street was utterly justified due to an extended set which was enjoyable from beginning to end.

Was very pissed off to have missed Crosby. How much of the classic stuff did they play Gar? Anything off the first album? Caught him at Vicar Street a couple of years ago with CPR. Was sitting beside Marianne Faithful for the show, who sung along quietly to some of his old solo songs.

To be honest with you, I'm not a massive fan of Crosby, Stills or Nash. I went to the gig out of curiosity, only some tunes. It was really good though and noticed a fair few tracks, to which a large section of the crowd added their vocals ('Our House' was one). Really good gig though. I was actually in HMV today and saw a David Crosby solo album in the sale section so I might purchase that over the coming days.
