Whelans of Wexford Street to host a showcase the new wave of Irish music.
Are you serious about your music? Brave New Stage ’05 presents a unique challenge for bands and artists from around the country to fire up their music careers. Brave New Stage ’05 paves an alternative road towards getting to the next stage. Not just a “battle of the bands”, participants will get real advice and direction in all aspects of the music industry, along with a chance to share in 20,000 Euro worth of prizes.

Stage One: Twenty participants will be selected to take part in a series of workshops featuring representatives from the music industry who will give real, frank and straight-forward advice on getting ahead.
Stage Two: The competition takes place at Whelans and is divided into four heats featuring five acts each. Of these two will be selected by impartial judges from each night to perform in the Semi-Finals. At the Final the Grand Prize winner will be determined along with three runners up.
The Schedule is as follows:
Workshop 1: March 27th
Wednesday March 30th - Heat 1
Thursday March 31st – Heat 2
Wednesday April 6th - Heat 3
Thursday April 7th - Heat 4
Thursday April 14th - Semi-final
Thursday April 21st – Semi-final
Saturday April 30th – FINAL
Brave New Stage ’05 is different because:
There is no fee to enter
Participants get proper soundchecks
Participants will receive lots of material to help them in the music biz
It’s damn good fun

Fair play to them, this seems pretty much the best competition I've seen yet, hate to be cynical without evidence, but wheres the catch? Is'nt there always a catch? ;)?

The main catch being that it's a battle of the bands. And that makes it a competition, which defeats the idea of art. But thats just me being a hippy.
But if I was in a band I'd have a go at this (next year, I always say next year.)

I'd hardly call some saps with second hand fenders splintering themselves on the stage in Whelan's "art".
