Ever buy an album out of hype or a review that you read and then ignore it after one, maybe two listens? Then whenever that album is brought into a conversation, you frown at its inability to entertain or grab you. While it gathers dust in the darkened corner of your colelction, you eventually give it another chance. For some odd reason, you become charitable and allow the cd one last chance. And without you expecting it, it hits you like a thunderbolt. The quality of the album hooks you and you feel stupid for abandoning it for so long. Anyone ever do that?
Most recent example is Elbow 'Cast Of Thousands'

For me it was the "Futureheads" album...
didnt like it at all when i bought it first.
but then eventually i really got to like it.

i used to laugh out loud at kraftwerk, i saw the light a couple of months ago and now own 6 albums!
The Strokes and Lemonjelly have grown on me big style aswell, have had both their first albums for ages and never bothered with them until recently

yeah for me that happened with the kings of leon i heard there first album in a friends a few times and thought it was ok . But when i heard the bucket i just had to get there new album and i think its the best thing i heard in 2004. i am even buying the old album off cdwow

For me it is The Dears 'No Cities Left'. Listened to the album about 3 times and then got talked into seeing them in Whelan's a few weeks ago. Thought it was self-indulgent prog-rock pish. On mature reflect, tis a cracking album.

Vent My Spleen, I felt the exact same when I first got that second album by The Dears last year. I was actually listening to it on the bus today and it has grown on me considerably.

Gomezs' first record in 98 and a lot of Mr. Bungle stuff actually grows as well, especially California.

the frames-for the birds for me as well as new rem album, going to see em on the 26th so forced myself to go back to it after initially being a bit disgusted by it, but can kinda see now what they were at

Rufus Wainwright, want one, bought it, thought it was s**te, gave it another listen 2 months ago, liked it. Hoping that want 2 is the same because when I listened to it for the first time on sunday I hated it.

for me it was Forever Changes by Love. Bought it yonks ago, only started loving it bout 2 years ago. Class album, class band !

John Coltrane's A Love Supreme.
Got a copy of it years ago and it lay buried under an old L7 album (remember them?) for more years. Gradualy it's risen to the top of the pile, and now it's a top 5 desert island disc.

badly drawn boy- have you fed the fish? when i first got it i wasnt too impressed, but now it my favourite badly drawn boy album. for some reason it sounds so much better on vinyl!!!

Bought this a while ago and couldn't bear to listen to it again after 3 or 4 times, wasn't into it at all...maybe I'll come back to it again in a while |

Patton is a legend alright. Some great music. Tomahawk are excellent - his solo albums are very odd but get the odd spin on the iPod nonetheless. |

Patton is a legend alright...excellent - his solo albums are very odd but get the odd spin on the iPod nonetheless.
yeah i got some fantomas stuff, very hard to digest. I thought Radiohead had brought things far out, but I was very wrong. He is a great artist though cos he just doesnt seem to give a flute what anyone thinks of what he does once he's happy with it. The Lovage CD is great too, dont know who else is on it but Patton does vocals. His work rate is pretty absurd in fairness. Alot of Madonna covers on the 'net apparantly!

Another more recent example is Hope of the States - The Lost Riots. Always a band that I thought I should like but really couldn't get over the guys voice. I'm REALLY getting into it now. Feel foolish for leaving it so long.
