What a waste of time. Robbie Williams 'Angels' the best song of the last 25 years?!! Are you joking me. Its not even the best Robbie Williams song of the last 25 years!

I won't worry about The Brits too much, the Mercury Music Prize is the only one I really look out for. I usually discover at least three decent acts through its shortlist every year.

"Until the true Art attacks and wounded commercialistic faces withdraw there strong plataues but morbidly weak backbones from sight, we must continue to suffer the indignity of triumph over what matters" Gaudi
I dont know why we are so surprised anymore people. Ever year similiar awards are given out to those who have "contributed" to the music industry in a matter so small and insignificant, that should they vanish from the face of the earth tomorrow, no one would honestly blink with the exception of affected teenagers who have their posters adorning their walls. Words fail me for that the only award worth talking about now is the "Mercury". Long may it hold onto its dignity.
Sigh..........................

i ve an old present(honest! it was a gift!) of a tape (remember them?) of the winners of the brits 1992 and it proves that over time these things do not matter in the slightest.
(i cant remember much of it but Extreme are on it with "Whole Hearted" (in fairness a great guitar player in Nuno Bettencourt), as are EMF and Beverly Craven, cannot remember the others)
In my opinion your confusing music with sport if you think these matter, but I am just an idiot.
Mercury amd its ilk have a place to point out the acts that deserve to be pointed out for brilliance, fair enough, but generally these things are just based on old fashioned/80's mentality and thinking, arent they?
A question like the best song of the last 25 years is so subjective, ask me today and i'd say "unclef**ker" from southpark, ask me monday and i'll tell you "something in the way"-not the 'phonic's version (note, takin the fiss with "'phonics", just in case i get into trouble for that one!).
but hey it makes money for marketing employees who would otherwise not be able to afford that gym membership. so please think of the marketing employees. OH wont someone think of the marketing employees?!

i don't think anyone really pays attention to them.
they're industry awards and if you play the industry game, you have to go and be gratious and thankful.
i respect any band who can tell them to fúck off.

I think the shortlist award is really good because they don't discriminate between nationalities and the only criteria is not to have sold in excess of 100,000 copies (correct me if I'm wrong).
Tv on the radio were this years winners, I believe.

500,000 and yes, TV on the Radio won it this year. The previous year was Damien Rice, and before that Sigur Ros. But of the initial 50 from last year (the longlist) there were at least 10 records that I thought were really good and 25 or so that I had never heard of so thazts 15 I wasn't nuts about so thats good going.

really truly and honestly who cares about awards?
You get them, you get pissed and celebrate, throw the thing away and write another album.
The only people who get hung up about awards are arseholes and as mutch said, the marketing people who have to seel s**t - f**k them all

Good point Eoin, to use an example away from music everyone remembers raging bull, no one remembers what film beat it for the best film Oscar in (I think) 1982.
