Have to recommend this new movie directed by Alexander Payne who also did the quite good movie 'election' and over-rated movie 'About Schmidt.' It is a sort of road movie without the drugs, just booze, specifically fine wine. Paul Giamatti is excellent again (similar to his turn in american splendor) as a failed writer and divorcee on a weeklong stag with his college room-mate, a has-been actor looking to get laid one last time before his wedding. It has some great lines and scenes and is my movie of the year so far...

Sideways is a legendary work. Lost in Tranlsation for the slightly disillusioned, 30-something male 'just the one pint becomes six' set. It's seriously funny and seriously moving by turns, with a script to die for. To continue my raptures, I'm off to buy the book. ...By the way one of those Nine Songs better not be by the King of Ching Damian Rice - can't look at a screen these days without suffering his maudlin tones.

It's a brilliant film, can't recommend it highly enough. Paul Giamati is excellent, though I'd disagree that his character is similar to "American Splendor" ( possibly the best film of last year ). Actually the acting all round in this film is superb in my opinion. By turns hilariously, side - splittingly funny and achingly sad. Go and see it.

Om another note, I'm looking forward to seeing Garden State when it comes out. Written, directed and starring Zach Braff from Scrubs and Natalie Portman. It has received excellent press. The soundtrack is meant to be pretty tasty too.

Yeah Iron & Wine, Calexico, Postal Service, Coldplay all feature on the Garden State soundtrack. And apparently Iron & Wine have teamed up with Calexico to record an Ep which should be out late summer.

Well, I believe that the screening is being sponsored by Kleenex and that anoraks are available for rent at the cost of €1.00 Considering that this was the first film to sell out at the festival it suggests that there may be quite a few people with hairy palms and badeyesight in DUblin at the moment. Though, if a Damien Rice song is used, it may put the audience off their, ahem, stroke, so to speak. Actually, he would quite appropriate for the soundtrack since he is a....(thats enough. Ed)
