There are a number of things i have noticed on this site in recent weeks & Dope Fiend, who is as guilty as the rest of us are, has posted a good thread titled "feedback" which should make interesting reading over the next few days. Nevertheless, my thoughts on the following past weeks talking amongst members here is as follows: (1) We DONT like feedback - People who like/support/follow a particular group and who hear negative things about the group in question respond with arguments supporting their acts. However these responses have in recent times been met with angry personal insults(i note that I am NOT one of these unfortunate people)which have absolutely no baring on the points in question at the time. I think Bonzo has been the most recent victim of this. There is no call to insult anyone in here. We are talking and thats all. Cluas provides us with a great medium to express thoughts and there have been some great debates in here recently, but some have degraded into slaggin matches and I for one think they are not necessary. (2) No matter what opinions people have on no matter what act in question these are peoples opinions. They are not correct nor are they wrong. The definition of opinion according to Elizabeth Drew,a classical author is a belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof: “The world is not run by thought, nor by imagination, but by opinion” (her quote): At times in here you almost get shot for having one yet the people who shoot you are themselves expressing, in an often bad way, their OWN opinion, so a contradictory in terms situation arrives. (3) The constant bashing of hard working acts, for months the Frames and in more recent times, Jove. Whether you like these bands or not is absolutely fine. But to quantify your statements by saying "Jove are crap" or the "Frames are s**te" places the bait down for argument to begin NOT disscussion. As Gar and Dromed I think it was said, this is getting boring and the Frames can smirk at it, they have, finally, excuse the pun, made it. Jove are on the up, will probably crack it but probably need a little more laying off them right now I imagine. Bands put themselves in the critics eye to be critically judged, not personally bashed. (4) Now call me old fashioned and I am prepared to get lynched for this one but of the number of new memebers who've arrived recently, some have been very brash and brazen towards older more respected members. I too was new once, but i walked a fine rope for the first couple of months to get a feel with the room and the people within it before i shoulted my mouth off, my first thread "Hot Press Acts 2005" went up only three weeks ago and I am a member nearly 6 months. There are some very senior writers here who we respect and also some senior members who's opinion also deserves respect. Let's show it. Now all those points are open for "Disscussion".

Good points made there Flipperstired. I post on Cluas because it is a forum that never really stooped to members verbally abusing eachother because they like a certain act, plus the writing has always been top class. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and its great that forums like this provide a platform for people to express those opinions. As long as childish remarks and nitty slaggings stay clear and threads keep some momentum, then I will keep posting here. It's good that this has been brought to the attention of other members, hopefully it will receive positive feedback. On with the next interesting thread!!!!

i first posted because i would go on site regularly and i would just read the reviews and the other stuff. But after christmas i had a look at the top five and just wanted to know what the story was with the frames getting to number one with thier last album which,i just dont think is good (not every album by a good band can be good). keane well I just hate keane im sorry i just do. In regards to jove they dont excite me. Music is reactionary so are people when they talk about it. If any toes are sore well i doubt that was intended but i wont apologise for my opinions and neither should anyone else and anyone who mentions Brian mcFaddan on a message site is plainly taking the piss sorry Brian. Its funny you know like the darkness were for about 2 seconds.

Prehaps its just because I have just endured the single worst live gig I have ever had the displeasure to attend, and will be taking my bloody vengence on the said gurning midget with the lime green guitar in the review section of cluas later this week but I want to point out the following. These discussion boards are dedicated to music related freedom of speech which means that you are free to say what you like and in the manner that you choose to say it. Some people are very eloquent, some people are a little more blunt. Whatever your view, this is where you get to express it and, as long as you don't break the law and thus get Cluas into trouble with the lawyers, you are free to get on with the job in hand. That means that these boards are often the home of very rambling, fascinating and exciting threads, argued for and against with passion. If you cant take the gladitorial heat that this sometimes entails then maybe, you should stick to expounding your views to a group of like minded friends. If you can, then the field is yours.
