True, stone roses are legends, but to be honest, I'd prefer to listen to the stereophonics any day. Some of their earlier songs were great! Bartender and the Thief anyone? Their new stuff is crap though, and good looking as he is, Kelly Jones is not legend material

I'd actually deabte the legandary status place upon The Stone Roses. While they had some really good tunes, Brown was an exciting frontman, Reni was a decent drummer and Squire was a superb guitarist, I wouldn't rate them as legends. Ok, it can be argued that they define the era of the early 90s and opened the door for Oasis, Happy Mondays, Charlatans, Cast, The Verve, Blur etc. But does every band that stand out more than a few others during their existence have right to claim legendary status? I'm not so sure.
As regards The Stereophonics....seem to be getting worse all the time with new single 'Dakota' not offering much. I'd be curious to hear Kelly Jones do some solo stuff though, maybe with Noel Gallagher assisting him.

Yikes Gar. Every one of those bands couldn't hold a candle to the Roses. The musical landscape was pretty bleak in 1989 - one the one hand pop was owned by Waterman and indie was either crap pseudo goth or shoe gazing. The Stone Roses were a breath of air and also were one of the first indie bands to cross over into the mainstream.
Legends they night not be but they sure were close with their first album.
As for the Stereophonics - they are at best a decent pub band. His vocals make me want to drive a screwdriver through my ear drums.

The Stereophonics are awful! awful! awful! in my humble opinion. Bland, bar-room rock with plenty of cheese on top. Bartender and the Thief anyone?
The Stone Roses? Now maybe it's because i was a wee teenager when they came on the scene and there's a nostalgia value to it for me but i wouldn't allow Kelly Jones to change the strings on John Squire's guitar. The Stone Roses debut is a great album. I Am The Ressurections anyone? Waterfall anyone? Fools Gold anyone?

Stone Roses, meh, I like Fools Gold but I'm unimpressed by everything else. Maybe it's becasue I've never done E.
F.E.A.R. is amazing though.

no way bout the pills! their first album isnt too much into the beats, its personally my favourite, just great songs i wanna be adored and waterfalls are deadly tracks. as for the second coming i personally dont like it at all
with regards putting a screwdriver through his eyeball! id commend that action but would like to suggest that putting it through his heart would really clear up the matter completely for me!! maybe we could tag team unicron!

I was actually listening to Stone Roses on the bus today. I agree that their debut was great and some of their other tracks are very good. But I would still say that this doesnt elevate them to the status of legendary icons. When I think of legends, I wouldn't be thinking of Ian Brown skitting about on stage like a drunken monkey.

That's very funny. I mentioned monkey because wasn't one of Brown's solo efforts entitled 'Monkey Business'. I like some of his stuff and some of the Stone Roses. But legends? Nah.
