U2 have confirmed some details of their Vertigo world tour, including the much coveted support slot. After much speculation surrounding the details of their world tour, U2 have revealed Vertigo D-day as March 28 at San Diego Sports Arena. Kings of Leon have been confirmed as the support act for the first leg of the North American tour, which is expected to finish in Boston towards the end of May, according to billboard.com. At this stage it is unknown which band will support the 30-date European tour, with long-circulating rumours that U2 will choose fellow countrymen The Thrills or Snow Patrol. Full details of the tour are expected to be announced next Monday, January 24, with North American fans able to purchase tickets from January 29.

Having been forced to postpone the first batch of dates due to a family illness, U2 have confirmed that their 2005 Vertigo World Tour will kick off in San Diego on March 28. As revealed before Christmas, the trek will stop-off in Dublin's Croke Park on June 24, with well-placed sources suggesting that provision has been made for a second show in the 60,000-capacity venue. "Now that all the logistics are worked out, the band are really looking forward to getting on the road," enthuses manager Paul McGuinness. "I've heard the new songs in rehearsal, they sound really great and the new production is going to blow everyone away." Tickets for Croke Park go on sale at 9am on Friday February 4, with 0818 719 300 (Ireland); 0870 243 44 55 (The North); and +353 1 456 9569 (International) the Credit Card Hotlines to contact. Following a 13-city sweep through North America, the European leg of the tour kicks off in the King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels on June 10 and then visits Schalke Stadium, Gelsenkirchen (12); City of Manchester Stadium (14); Twickenham Stadium, London (18); Hampden Park, Glasgow (21); Millennium Stadium, Cardiff (29); Enrst Happel Stadium, Vienna (July 2); Slaski Stadium, Katowice (5); Olympic Stadium, Berlin (7); Stade de France, Paris (9); Letzigrund Stadium, Zurich (11); Amsterdam Arena (13); San Siro, Milan (19); Olympic Stadium, Rome (23); Vallehovin, Oslo (27); Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg (29); Parken, Copenhagen (31); Olympic Stadium, Munich (August 3); Parc des Sports Charles Ehrmann, Nice (5); Camp Nou, Barcelona (7); Anoeta Stadium, San Sebastian (9); Estadio Vicente Calderon, Madrid (11); and Alvalade, Lisbon (14). Tickets for the UK go on sale at 9am on Friday January 28; Brussels at 9am on Saturday January 29; and the rest of Europe on a date in February yet to be confirmed. Prior to that little lot, U2 will be performing alongside Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw and Green Day at the 2005 Grammy Awards, which take place in LA on February 13.
