I don't know about you but I am going to vote for Bryan McFadden in every category I can. I just can't take any more whining, wailing, tuneless, off key acoustic guitar wielding hobbits.

guys just remember, the irish music scene is so small.... In ten years time we'll probably be laughing about the nominations then. Only at that stage, the Frames will receive outstanding contribution to music award, Brian Mcfadden will be hosting a talk show, the future kings of spain WILL be the kings of spain, daniel of the thrills will have become a girl (he is heading that way with that voice) and Snow Patrol will be the new kings of Ireland.... hey changes are good.... elton john will be singin candle in the wind 2015, "and it seems to me, i lived my life, like an ignorant overstuffed pig".... Kierry, priceless... but expect more next year.... and the year after ..... and the year after that.... blah blah blah blah blah i am so content in life blah blah blah blah...

The musicians, dj's etc.. dont give a sh*t about the awards, it's just an excuse to rob a couple of thousand teenage girls of their pocket money. Ireland needs a no nonsense highly respected accolade such as the Mercury Prize, forget about the various categories - just have a prize for best album / band full stop.

Grecian Nick my friend, you can't just generalise like that: for some people, it may mean a lot to even be nominated. That goes especially for new acts, as opposed to people like the Frames or ahem Elton John, they would be glad to be recognised. Speaking as a teenage girl, I feel I shoudl argue that point too, but to be honest, I can't.
Perhaps reducing the amount of categories is a good idea though. Why do we seperate male/female artists?

It is where drink, drugs and sex are concerned.
If there was an olympic category for heroin, Keith Richards would win gold...every four years.
(The Reverend Jules Earl Jackson Esq does not condone the use of drugs...however Waylon Jennings $10,000 a day coke habit was pretty impressive)

Oh God, the Meteor awards. I cannot f**king wait.
Roll up the usual Irish 'indie' types: The Thrills, Snow Patrol, Paddy Casey, Damien Rice blah blah blah...yawn.And c**tface Brian McFadden.I'd love to rip that Kurt Cobain t-shirt I saw him wearing once in a photo and f**king strangle the pig-nosed f**ker with it. Oh Yes, The Frames. You gotta have The Frames in there. The skies will darken, a hard rain's gonna fall and the whole world will slip on its axis if the Frames are not f**king nominated in some stupid f**king Irish end-of-year poll/critics' choice/awards show every f**king year. Of course, they'll win cos everybody loves The f**king Frames. Sinead O'Connor, what the f**k has she done in the past year? Best Irish DJ Dave Fanning. How f**king original. He must have 2,456 'Best Irish DJ' gongs at this stage. George Murphy??? Anyone who bought this pig-eyed runt's album should really commit suicide, or, alternatively, they could continue living on the condition that they give the CD to charity and go out and buy Luke Kelly's back catalogue instead. Wouldn't it be great if say, Luke Kelly and Phil Lynott were still alive and Brian McFadden and George Murphy were dead. How f**king cool would that be? And all this hosted by that f**king scrawny, pasty-faced,desperately unfunny f**khead Ed Byrne.
Oh Sweet God, I'm emigrating.

ok... Antistar.. you have serious issues!! I am available to chat anytime about the above.... cos i agree with 99% of it... only thing i dont like to see from anyone is throwing the name Snow Patrol into the "usuals" category, i think those guys have earned their time and have got there through a fantastic album.. but the rest... i will emmigrate too!

I HATE T-shirts with people's faces/band names on it. But for different reasons than you methinks.

I Agree that Snow patrol should be there but It does bbeg the question why once again after so many quality independent releases thoughout the last several years do the Meteor awards insist on ignoring these bands who have been doing it themselves. It really just seems to be a pat on the back for usual industry suspects.

Howdy y'all! New to this site and have found the opinions here to very interesting. Good to have an Irish forum to discuss music etcetera. On the subject of the Meteor awards i'll have to agree with boywonder's statement that it's a pat on the back for the usual industry suspects. I've only ever cast a sideways glance at them on TV and read the results the next day and find them most uninspiring, anodyne and a bit of a joke really. I mean, the comparison between '04 and '05 in a previous post with regard to new bands just sums up the laziness of it all. Eh .... if you're a best new band in 2004, can you still be a best new band in 2005 as well? Or does it mean that 2004 was an abysmally s**te year for new music?
