I dont know about anyone else on this board but I've always loved a good soundtrack.
There's nothing that stirs you emotionally or mentally like a good soundtrack. The Empire Strikes Back, for example, has an inspired soundtrack. Something with themes, sweeping tones. It captures the essence of the movie in so many ways, and almost overshadows it.
The other side of the OST coin is something like A Life Less Ordinary or Fight Clubs soundtracks. Again, they are the ready and willing sidekicks to already fantastic movies that lift the whole experience a little higher.
And with that, I want a list. Your all time, TOP 5, movie soundtracks. What makes you feel every emotion you've got inside you. What makes you triumph with the characters and feel their pain when they're down....
My TOP 5, movie soundtracks of all time are:
1. The Empire Strikes Back - Epic, classic, powerful
2. Signs - Subtle, Slow burning, emotional
3. Almost Famous - Pure Rock and/or Roll
4. Transformers The Movie - I'm a big kid at heart and its ace
5. Alien - Subtle, creepy, seductive
However, Alien could well be nudged out by Lethal Weapon, just because.
How about the rest of ya?

Never been a fan of his work, but I really like Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ.

Off the top of me head the two best soundtracks are Vanilla sky and Lost in translation,after that of course are the likes of 24 hour party people,Quadrophenia,Tommy and the like...,I seem to remember that there's somethin cool about the score for Predator aswell.........

Let me see now, top 5 eh?
I'll try and keep this to scores as opposed to soundtracks.
The difference being, I think, that scores are written for the film as opposed to soundtracks which just take songs and stick'em in a movie.
Anyway,
(5) Get Carter: Fantastically cool main tune, with that chilling glassy piano thingy sound and the great Indian tabla type groove.
(4) The Deer Hunter: John Williams did a fine job here, the classical guitar is beautiful.
(3) The Mission: yer man Ennio Morricone, I think his name is, he's done loads of scores. This is class.
(2) Zulu: Fantastic, the powerful orchestration, still makes the hairs on my neck stand up when I hear it.
(1) Unbreakable: A recent favourite in the film music stakes. I'm not sure if it is music scored for the film or not though.
Cop out time: These aren't really my all time top five, couldn't decide really.
A few more noteworthy mentions go to 'Star Wars/ Empire Strikes Back', '2001 A Space Odyssey', 'Raging Bull', 'Jaws', 'Bullitt', 'The Magnificent Seven', 'Back to The Future', 'Raiders of The Lost Arc', 'Goodfellas' the list goes on.........

1. judgement night - ost years ahead of its time.
2. singles though ive lost my copy of this through the years of college and movin around the country

4.coneheads - for soul to squeeze
5. spinal tap.
there was an alice in chains song used for the ost to "The Last Action Heroe" that i remember loving (back when MTV played not only music, but good music, even during the day when i was supposed to be at school)
ive looked for this soundtrack since but never found it. anyone remember the name of the song?
(by the way, i think next we'll have top 5 ost's to games! bit soon yet though maybe)

There was 2 Alice in Chains songs on there. "A Little Bitter" & "What the Hell have I done?"
Last Action Hero is a great flick. Nice to see someone else appreciates it in some capacity.

I've already done that. Trouble is, no one can listen to it because it defys all conventional music and goes beyond sound.
If you "heard", nay, experienced it, it'd probably kill you.

1. Starcraft - cinematic
2. Shadow Dancer - funky
3. Gitaroo Man - Some of the best music made for a play along song game ever...kind like Parrappa the Rapper but, GOOD!

jaysus i forgot about d blaxploitation soundtracks! All o' them are deadly, namely Curtis Mayfields Superfly soundtrack and the soundtrack to Cool Breeze, oh yeah, thats the sh*t!
