Anyone who's a musician will tell you that one band or one record/song made them wanna become what they are. Just wanna see what inspired the musicians on here to learn how to play whatever instruments they play be it guitar, bass, drums, violin, triangle, whatever... For me, it was Alice in Chains "Dirt", Guns N' Roses "Appetite for Destruction" and Metallica's "Load"....

Well, I first started to want to pick up the guitar and become a musician listening to my Dad's Beatles albums. However, they always seemed too big, such legends. So, it wasn't until I heard Oasis' 'Definitely, Maybe' I thought: "Yeah, I could do that".

thin lizzy - rosin dubh, bruce springsteen, the river. i was born in 79 so these were both very before my time so i have my dad's cool record collection to thank. also, iron maiden live after death. the greatest 80s metal live album ever. the guy that nudged me into guitar was hendrix. boring and typical but thats the truth. slash futher convinced me that i was right cos no one looks cooler than him with a sunburst les paul and a dirty smoke hangin out of his gob. i since quit smoking though.

No no....I was kidding. I wouldnt encourage anyone who's quit to start again. More power to 'em. I wish I could quit, but god dammit, I love 'em too much.

yesssss!!!!! they stage-dived at the end and because mary robinson was attending (in the balcony, not in the mosh-pit!!!) some people were really shocked!!! ...but lots of us were inspired by it - at the time I thought it was so cool. perhaps more than an album or song, there are some really great rock n' roll moments that also inspire people; maybe a band on 'top of the pops' or live aid or an exciting concert.

I remember when i first heard the cover the Manics did of Guns N' Roses "They're out to get me"...that horrified me more than Milli Vanilli...But then I began to like them, the Manics. Not anymore. Dont like anything they've done since Everything Must Go. Does anyone remember when Therapy? were on the Late Late Show?? Thet were supposed to do "Nowhere" but did "Knives" instead. Poor Gaybo even introduced them and the song and they blasted into Knives instead. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. I wept with joy!

Speaking of the Late Late, did anyone see Pop will Eat Itself playing on it? They completely trashed their equipment and made s**te of the stage when they finished playing. I still have fond memories of that

Ok, so I'm not a musician. Still, I CAN say the REM are the reason i listen to music, and if i ever did start a band, they'd be the reason why. I was ten years old and I heard "Losing My Religion" and "Man on the Moon" at basically the same time. That was it for me. I'd heard music before them that i liked a lot (my mom's Beatles records, my dad's Talking Heads CDs) but REM were the first band that I ever heard and though "i have to have more of this / I want to hear everything they've done and then i want to hear everything like them and then sit and wait for their next."
