On Sunday evening CPU Records was maliciously hacked. The culprit entered using a webmasters password and proceeded to methodically delete all of CPU's administration modules. This was all done just before our system backed itself up. Once this was done it meant that our system backed up with a deleted site! For the past few days we have been endeavouring to recover as much of the deleted information as possible. Unfortuneatly this is the damage that was done... ...All forum posts have been lost (we hope that you will all help to fill this up again soon!), 600 industry listings have been lost, our events listings were lost, any submitted stories over the weekend have been lost, some of our archive photos have been lost, all comments on the site have been deleted, several of our polls results are gone, three months of news stories were deleted. There is some good news however! I have been in a furious race to retrieve the lost news articles from Google caches (its been us versus the Googlebots!) and have been quite succesful. I have retrieved 84 of the 90 news articles that were deleted and have resubmitted them to the site. The only downside in this is that the amount of reads per article on a lot of the stories has returned to 0 and since I had to resubmit them the original posters name on the articles has been lost, for this we apologise, but to those of you regular posters to CPU Records we hope that this will not deter you from future postings. The other good news is that very soon we will be launching our new and improved artist section so please check it out. In this section you will be able to make your own artists microsite within CPU and be able to upload press, photos, music for streaming or download and news. There is also a radio station here and a weekly play chart. Check it out! And finally it is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that we tracked the IP address of the hacker and know exactly who it was. This information has been passed on to the gardai and our legal representatives who are now taking the appropriate action to instigate criminal and legal proceedings. Once again thanks to all our users who have been patient whilst we have been restoring the site...but as timmy23 would say HAIL DISCORDIA!

Actually it's not total b****x... if you go through the right channels you'd be very surprised at what you can find out from a logged IP address with a time reference. Even though our system was hacked, the way our webmaster has the site set up we knew exactly how and when it was done. You must remember that this is not the first time that CPU has been hacked so we had taken a number of measures to find out the culprits should they strike again. But yes its not simply the IP address that gave them away I will give you that, I'm not the techie in this affair so I can't give you the exact terminology...sorry

I'm sorry to hear about it too but maybe this'll be a lesson in manually backing up your files?

Oh you wouldn't believe the bollicking our webmaster got, poor fella! Although he did completely redeem himself with the work he's put in over the past week. there are so many backups of everything now we're spoilt for choice should anything happen again! Thanks for everyones support during our troubled times!
