Eh, Snowpatrol have been playing for over 10 years... alot longer then coldplay. Snowpatrols music style has been consistent over that time

uneducated opinions arent worth the paper they're printed on - indeed. Snowpatrol in keeping with another thread on this website are a poor mans coldplay. I really don't think they are very good. If you do then go along to the RDS and pay you're hard earned cash. Just because they are around longer than coldplay btw doesn't make them better than coldplay. Is the fact that they are Irish got anything to do with the fact that the music buying public here wet their pants over them?

The reason the music buying public has only this year decided to take notice of snowpatrol is because they got some good airplay on the BBC. It is most likely the Coldplay buying crowd that are buying their albums now, but thats only because, in general these people are not the kind to go to gigs to discover new bands, they have to be handed them all packaged up. The reason I mentioned that snowpatrol have been around longer is because i got the impression that you were implying that snowpatrol were ripping off coldplay, and i wanted to rubbish that claim by saying that snowpatrol have been around longer and have been consistent with their music style. They didnt release the final straw just to piggy back on coldplays laurels. I cant honestly understand why people are comparing the two bands anyway. they are not that similar. snowpatrol have put in a lot of work to get to the point where they are now. alot more work then coldplay. at their album launch in the TBMC last year it looked as if the band were finished, the turnout wasnt great. Now they can fill the olympia/RDS and personally i think they deserve all the credit they get

I disagree in only one respect. In my opinion they are piggy backing on coldplay. A concious decision was made by them and their label to seize on coldplay's success, Island did the same with Keane. Actually, as I type this Im thinking that there is nothing wrong with that! However, I should say I just don't like Snowpatrol. I don't think they are very good and all the hard work in the world is not going to change that.

Fair enough, if you dont like them. Nothing wrong with that. However, on the record label front, snowpatrol were dropped by jeepster just after the album prior to "The Final Straw", alot is made of their nomination for the Mercury price this year. The last time they were nominated they had to put the entry fee up themselves, because the record label wasnt interested. They then signed to polydor after being labelless for a while. They had already recorded a demo for the new album, the songs had been written, so there was no pressure on them to change their style to catch a bit of the coldplay action. On the coldplay front, im a fan. Have been since the brothers and sisters e.p. back in 1999, and up until recently id never even though of putting the two bands in the same sentence. My main point is, maybe the general public are putting them together in the same package, lets face it the general public needs to be spoon fed their music, however i firmly believe that it was not the bands intention to market themselves this way. Ive seen no evidence of this.
