Now don't get me wrong or anything, Nirvana are my favourite band ever and if they didn't have such an abrupt and tragic end maybe they could've stayed around and be recognised as the greatest band of all time.
But, does anyone else here think it's wrong to have all these tributes to Kurt Cobain's death? I mean does this mean suicide is acceptable? Also, would we not be better off celebrating what he did in life not the fact that he shot himself. It p*sses me off that all these people who call themselves fans go out and get drunk to "celebrate" the fact that one of the greatest songwriters ever was so depressed in such despair that he took the ultimate step.

I dont think anybody is celebrating suicide, no shotguns being let off in the streets is there? I dont think anyone is celebrating heroin addiction addiction either, people are simply remembering the tragic greatness that was Kurt Cobain and the legacy of Nirvana. It is tragic and disturbing that he had to go that way, but it is a sad fact that he was fuked up and that is how he died. People dont celebrate deaths at anniversaries they remember life, so go out and have a pint for Kurt.

Couldn't agree more, Brain of G. Bi-polar disorder is no laughing-matter. The hi-jacking of K.C. by the media in general, and the re-configuration of a sick man into some kind of tortured genius is grossly irresponsible. In my book, the guy was a talented songwriter who didn't take his medication and complicated matters even further with his heroin addiction. Nor was he one of rock's great "survivors". Suicide is an act of desperation, not bravery: there was no martyrdom or glory to it. Nor was he brought down by the cruel uncaring world: it was an act of cowardice, not least as he had a wife and kid. Best left alone, I would think.

I see it more as a tribute/memorial of his music and who he was.

Maybe you are missing the point here Brian. This is a memorial and celebration of his music. He has influenced so many bands of today as well as people in general. None of these tributes are money spinners or anything like that. Just people paying homage to their idol. You are right when it comes to all the merchandising, t-shirts etc.... What abouth the Jhonny Cash tribute at Vicar street??

Isn't the Johnny Cash tribute his brother?? Has anyone else seen the posted around town my some jokers claiming to be the "original" Abba tribute act?? You gotta love it.
