I'm seriously thinking of going to Glastonbury this year - after years of threatening to, I think it's time. So I'm looking for some input/feedback from ye's...has anyone here been at it in the last couple of years../.what did you think? What's the best method of getting there - travel from London by bus or rail, or travel from Bristol by bus??? Has anyone heard any rumours whose due to play this year?

I've gone to the past 4 Glastonbury's, the first in 1999.
And let me tell you, it's amazing!!
It has never let me down for quality music, mad sessions and just the magical atmosphere.
It's just infinitely better than any other festival I've been to, including Witnness, Feile, Homelands, etc.
I've been lucky as I've never experienced a washed out Glasto like '97 or '98, but they're few and far between usually.
As far as getting there goes, we've always stuck with a nice cheapo Ryanair flight to Bristol, £6 for a bus into town, pick up some provisions and hop the festival bus to the site, an hour's journey depending on the traffic.
You can check out the rumours page and get ticket details on the official site.
You should definitely go, ok. Go!

stick 01 april in your diary cos tickets go on sale that day at 8pm. you can only buy via their phone line, it's two per person and they'll have your name on it so you can't tout them. i reckon after last year there'll be a rush on day one. but i'm hopefully going to be there for the first time. seeing last year's line-up and knowing i was going to have to watch it on tv almost made me cry.
check out www.eyeballkid.com/news for more info on glasto

A mate of mine and I intended to go to Glasto last year, but we weren't quick off the mark for tickets. So we went to T In The Park in Scotland instead and it was just amazing. Bigger & better than Witnness I must say. Festivals in the UK are usually well organised though, we got a cheap flight to GLasgow, a short train journey into town and £10/12 for a bus from there all the way to the site.
We booked everything in advance including bus tickets & stuff and we were there in no time. You should check out Citylink Coaches (or something) when the time comes. I'd recommend you arrive as close as possible to the site as buses go from all cities to Glasto.

There is a festival bus which leaves from Bristol Bus Station every few minute, it's around a tenner return and drops you to the gate.
More and more people are travelling down to the site on Tuesday and Wednesday to insure a good camping spot.
Last year we arrived on Wednesday afternoon and it was already pretty full.

Thanks for that lads...good stuff. I need to assess the finances and if I'll have the cash on 1st April then i'm defo going. I was looking through the official site but couldn't find anything about rumoured acts to play. D'you think Bowie will make an appearance as he's supposed to be doin' some of the festivals this year?

Quite possibly. Over the years, acts who have headlined Glastonbury have often headlined T In The Park in the same year. And Bowie's headling T this year, so I'd say the chances are pretty good.
Odd that no acts whatsoever have been announced yet though.

The line up is never announced until June, yet you can be guaranteed it will sell out on April 1st.
Many folk who go don't even watch any bands, They just wander around soaking up the atmosphere and the hot spicy cider!
Two rumours I heard were, Paul McCartney and Prince.
Bowie played in 2000, but I suppose there is good chance he'll play since he is doing a few festivals this year.

they never announced the glasto line-up before the tickets go on sale cos it's supposed to be about more than just the music, man.
prince would be great but he's probably too busy going door to door with his Watchtower magazine these days. best rumour i've heard so far is Captain Beefheart's Magic Band without the Captain himself -wonder if they've learned to play their instruments yet?
check http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/lineups.php?FestID=550 for all the rumours.

I've heard the Prince rumours alright - would be worth going to see him alone! Also The Chemical Brothers are due to headline the dance area in T in the Park this year and I'd pay good money to see them again. Did anyone catch them playing the MTV Awards (on tv) with Wayne Coyne singing the Golden Path...what a song!

Yeah, I was at witnness that year too! The Chems were brilliant, only slightly ruined by the fact that I was too tired to dance and getting assaulted by mud throwing Green Day fans while trying to make my way to the stage they were playing on.
