Hello everyone Local Beats is back, and Hoovers & Sledgehammers (not literally I hope) will be in the studio. It's on at 5, the usual, interview, live performance etc. Tune in if you can. This radio show is open to all you budding/experienced or world famous musicians out there, so contact me if you'd like an hour long show dedicated to your music. Remember, I don't get paid or imbursed in any way for doing this, I just want to help out bands and artists in any way possible 'cos I admire these people trying to get their music exposed in a rather un-exposable (is that a word? probably not) environment. I will leave the information below for anyone who wants to make an appearance. There are plenty of slots available, so get cracking, songwriters, bands, musicians and er.......backing singers or whatever. The Local Beats show is on every, well, most Saturdays for an hour at 5pm with me, Jimmy Murphy and whoever the hell else shows up. The frequency is 104.9fm (A digital tuner on your stereo would be a big help for this station) Drop an email with a name and a brief description of your music to jimmymurphy@hotmail.com and we'll take it from there. (Just be sure to put Dublin South FM or some other suitable reference in the subject bar, because in my anti-viral paranoia, I almost always delete mail from someone I don't know) Cheers Jimbo

Sorry about turning up to that gig and it not be on. I hope it didn't mess up your night too much, it was cancelled then rescheduled and now Clafferty has moved it to The Hub on April Fool's Day. This one is for real! To get a plug in we are playing Saturday 12th February - The Sugar Club - Hoot night'Ode to Boy' http://www.hootnight.com/ Thursday 17th February - Factro and Richer than Astronauts in Toners of Baggot Street Friday 25th February - Ballroom Of Romance with House of Mexico,Dry County, David Creevy & Piney Gir. Piney Gir is supporting Erasure that night and is heading up then to do the gig. Our website is www.crumbmusic.com. Band history and stuff is up there. I'm also back on bass duties for Mr Clafferty. Speaking of Crumb and the radio they were this week's Rising artist on Pet Sounds..great stuff altogether. I know they're doing a couple of hoot and support acts, but when can we see a fully fledged Crumb gig? Or we we missed one already?

Speaking of Groom: Some upcoming Groom gigs -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Catch Groom supporting Stoat this Friday, Feb 18th, in the Lower Deck. They will also be playing three weeks after that..... Groom, Northstation, Mumblin' Deaf Ro Toner's, Baggot Street, Dublin March 11, 2005, 8.30 3 euros Some information: Groom Groom are Brian, Liam, Mike and Wil: an indie electronic band from Dublin who mix looped beats with live instrumentation, including drums, banjos, fuzz guitars, washy keyboards and vocals. They wear stripey wool shirts and have far too many pairs of glasses than is necessary. Conversations about the latest software gizmos while listening to The Postal Service and Lemon Jelly only further confirm their nerd status. Mike and Wil were founding members of Irish indie band Settler, who had three releases on Fairview House records before disbanding. Settler toured extensively in Ireland and also the USA. Groom is a departure from the easy-going alternative guitar sounds of Settler. Liam Dunne, a prominent dance musician in Dublin's vibrant electronic scene, brings a whole new set of textures to the mix, and Brian O'Higgins completes the set up with his rhythmic rock drumming. www.gettaroom.com Northstation Northstation is Dublin musician Steve Fanagan. Steve began recording as Northstation in 1999, when he provided the soundtrack for a collection of short films. 2001 saw the release of the first Northstation album, ‘plink.plonk’, a collection of songs originally compiled for the din exhibition. This was followed by some live performances. In 2003 Steve began work on the ‘bears’ album, which was released this past July, on risc records (formerly compactrisc). there is a new northstation track - bear cub - on the redbridge compilation, on risc records (www.riscrecords.com). Steve currently works as a sound engineer and releases music under several different names. www.stevefanagan.com Mumblin’ Deaf Ro Mumblin’ Deaf Ro released his debut album ‘Senor My Friend . . .’ on the fledgling Dublin independent label Villain Records to critical acclaim in 2003. The Irish Times described it as ‘an idiosyncratic gem - ****’ and Village magazine called it ‘A diamond in the in-tray’. The album features 10 songs about rueful boxers, lovelorn mental patients and aspiring novelists, with their stories accompanied by finger-picking acoustic guitar playing, redolent of Mississippi John Hurt and the Reverend Gary Davis. Ro has played with many of the finest that the independent scene has to offer including Boa Morte, Holy Ghost Fathers and Stoat. Ro is currently working on his second album ‘The Herring and the Brine’, which will be released later this year. http://www.villainrecords.com
